Jackson resident Man of the Year

JACKSON — Fred Wetherell of Jackson will be honored as the Man of the Year by the members of the Monmouth County Senior Citizens Council Inc. for services rendered to the council and to the senior and disabled citizens of Monmouth County.

He is currently serving as the council’s trustee and chairman of the Ways and Means Committee. He is involved in the AARP "55 Alive Mature Driving" program as an instructor. In addition, he is a lifetime member and has served as commander of the Disabled Amer-ican Veterans Chapter No. 77 and also as a financial officer of the American Legion No. 504.

He has also held various degrees in the Masonic Order and is a delegate to the council representing two senior organizations and serves as their legislative chairman. Wetherell is also involved as a member of a number of other organizations. He will be honored at a testimonial dinner-dance to be held Oct. 23 from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Mike Doolan’s Banquet Hall, Route 71, Spring Lake Heights. The cost is $20 per person. The Monmouth County Senior Citizens Council is a composite organization of delegates and representatives of senior citizen clubs and groups throughout Monmouth County. Legislators and other dignitaries representing organizations dealing with the health and welfare of the senior and disabled citizens are invited to the meetings to present information pertaining to the benefits along with an update on current civic activities.

The information gathered and discussed is printed and the copies are distributed to each delegate to deliver to the members of his/her respective club. Concerned individuals wishing to join the council are welcome to attend the meetings which are held on the first Thursday of each month at the Oakhurst Recreation Hall, West Park Avenue, Ocean Township, at 10 a.m.
