Obituaries Anthony Furiato

Mr. Furiato, 83, of Middletown died Oct. 13 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Middletown, he was a lifelong Middletown resident. Mr. Furiato was a crossing guard in Middletown for the past 10 years. Prior to that, he was a shipping foreman at Bendix Corp., Eatontown, for 35 years, retiring in 1985, and a landscaper and gardener until the 1950s. He was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the Italian American Club, Middletown, and the Bendix Retirement Club. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Patricia Sacco Furiato; two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Lynn Furiato of Shrewsbury, and Ronald and Katherine Furiato of Middletown; a daughter, Patricia Marcelli of Middletown; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Visitation will be Oct. 17 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. A funeral gathering will take place Oct. 18 at 6:45 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a funeral liturgy at 8 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church, Red Bank. Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.

Virginia M. Southern

Mrs. Southern, 84, of Manchester died Oct. 11 at home. Born in South Norfolk, Va., she resided in Westwood and River Vale before moving to Manchester in 1989. She was employed in retail sales for 20 years, and at the Naval Acquisition Depot, Norfolk, Va., during World War II. She was a member of and held various positions at Christ United Methodist Church, Lakewood, since 1989. Prior to that, she was a member of and held various positions at Westwood United Methodist Church for 38 years. Mrs. Southern was predeceased by her husband, Robert, in 1986; and a son, William Southern, in 1989. She is survived by a son, Steven Southern of Oceanport; a sister, Kathleen Wilson of Chesapeake, Va.; and four grandchildren. Burial was at Whiting Memorial Park. Arrangements were by D’Elia Funeral Home, Lakewood.

William M. Springer

Mr. Springer, 82, of Red Bank died Oct. 7 at home. Born in Philadelphia, he resided in Paoli, Pa., prior to moving to Red Bank more than 30 years ago. Mr. Springer was executive vice president at William AMER Co. Philadelphia, retiring in 1986. Prior to that, he was president of the Surpass Leather Co., Philadelphia, for 30 years. He served as a major in the U.S. Air Force, where he flew B-24s in combat during World War II, and was a recipient of the Air Medal. He was a former member of The Good Samaritan Episcopal Church, Paoli. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marion Thompson Springer; a daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Norman and Janice Stahlheber of Paoli; a sister, Erma Ginder of Cochranville, Pa.; two granddaughters; and one great-grandson. Arrangements were by John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank.

Walter J. Zaleski

Mr. Zaleski, 81, of Sayreville died Oct. 10 at home. Prior to his retirement in 1981, he was employed as a chemical operator for Hercules Inc., Parlin section of Sayreville, where he worked for 42 years. Surviving are his wife, Eleanor Brzozowski Zaleski; five sons, Leonard and Ronald, both of Sayreville, John of Annapolis, Md., Lawrence of Point Pleasant and Kenneth of Tinton Falls; two daughters, Christine Rodriguez of Walden, N.Y., and Ann DeLuca of Burlington Township; a sister, Mary Przygoda of South River; and 14 grandchildren. A Mass was offered at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Sayreville. Interment was in the church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Stanislaus Kostka School Endowment Fund, 221 MacArthur Ave., Sayreville, NJ 08872.

Edwin Lewis LeBright

Mr. LeBright, 95, of Marlboro died Oct. 6 at Sunrise Assisted Living, Marlboro. Born in Maspeth, N.Y., he was one of six boys and had resided in Freehold Township before moving to Marlboro. He was employed as an engineer for Bell Laboratories, Whippany, for almost 50 years. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Wad­dell LeBright of Freehold; a daughter, Joyce Schaan of Freehold; a son, Ronald LeBright of Sea Bright; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold, fol­lowed by cremation, which was private.
