GOP must now follow through with its promises

Election time has come and gone. The Township Council is now divided at three Democrats and four Republicans. Stephen Acropolis is no longer the lone Republican, joined by three more of his fellow party members.

To the losing candidates, I am sorry. They did a fine job while in office. Kim Casten was a great council president, and Leon Mowadia was a funny man whom I had the pleasure of meeting at the football field and several town functions. Mowadia took on the powerhouse JCP&L for our residents, and I hope he will not abandon the fight. We need someone with the backbone to continue to take the strides that he has begun. Thanks to you all.

To the newcomers, I say congratulations. Your political party made a big push at the close of campaign time, and you pulled it out. You were fighting for the attention of 75,000-plus Brick residents, and you got it.

I stated in the past that the "Taxpayer Team" sounded like it had no real agenda. They only seemed to cry about taxes, and say they will stop overcrowding, raising taxes, traffic and save land. I never heard them say how. You may not have received my vote, but you now have my support. The other 65,000 or so who did not vote for you (or at all) and I are waiting to see you follow through with your promises. Your lack of foresight will not be tolerated for long, and I will stand strong waiting to hear some of your stellar ideas.

I cannot change the results of the elections, but we, the residents of Brick, have to live with the results. I pray that our town stays one of the safest in the United States. I hope that Brick continues to prosper the way it has. I hope you all do what is right for us.

Good luck on your future endeavors. Just remember, you got the votes you were looking for (at least about 9,000 of them), but now you have the full attention of the 75,000 or so Brick taxpayers you said were part of your team. We’ll be watching.
