Sgt. Warren G. "Bud" Cornell

Mr. Cornell, 82, of Eatontown died Oct. 22 at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Born in Queens, N.Y., he had resided in Eatontown for the past 46 years. Mr. Cornell was an employee of the Department of Defense Police, Fort Hancock, before his retirement. Prior to that, he was with the U.S. Army, serving during the Pacific Theater during World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War, retiring with the rank of sergeant first class. He was a member of St. James Memorial Episcopal Church, Eatontown. He was a 48-year member of the Masonic Lodge; a member and past patron of the Order of the Eastern Star No. 244 for 37 years; the Scottish Rite-Valley of Central Jersey; the Shriners of Trenton; and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 10129, Oceanport. He was an avid Yankees fan. He was predeceased a brother, John E. Cornell; and a sister, Marion Jaegar. Mr. Cornell is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marjorie M. Reiss Cornell; a son, William R. Cornell of Eatontown; a daughter, Marcia Cornell Anderson of Scotch Plains; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service was held at St. James Memorial Episcopal Church, Eatontown. Interment was at Shoreland Memorial Gardens, Hazlet. Arrangements were by Braun Funeral Home, Eatontown. Anthony Arnold Hawley

Mr. Hawley, 53, of Long Branch died Oct. 26 at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Born in Brazil, he resided in Highlands, Middletown and Long Branch most of his life. He was employed with the U.S. Postal Service, Long Branch. Prior to that, he worked at Bendix Aviation, Eatontown, for several years. He was predeceased by his mother, Airtes D. Hawley; and a sister, Suzette M. Hawley. He is survived by his father, Dudley Hawley of Middletown; a sister and brother-in-law, Patricia L. and Christopher L. Davis of Middletown; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews in Brazil. A funeral service was held at Trinity Episcopal Church, Red Bank. Interment was at Shoreland Memorial Park, Hazlet. The John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown, was in charge of arrangements. Pauline Safka Bertolo

Mrs. Bertolo, 77, of Long Branch died Nov. 9 at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Born in Chelsea, Mass., she resided in Queens, N.Y., before moving to Long Branch 35 years ago. She was the proprietor of Paint-in-Place, Eatontown, for 25 years, retiring in 1985. She was also a recording artist, and sang jazz and blues with her husband. She was a volunteer at the Fort Monmouth Thrift Shop, and received the Volunteer of the Year Award. Mrs. Bertolo is survived by her husband of 35 years, Salvatore P. Bertolo; two daughters, Melanie Schekeryk of Florida and Stephanie Safka of White Hall, N.Y.; a brother, George E. Altomare of Long Branch; a sister, Jeanne Iarrobino of Carmel, N.Y.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Arrangements were by Damiano Funeral Home, Long Branch. Internment was at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.

Desmond R. "Desi" Shanley

Mr. Shanley, 74, of Red Bank died Nov. 2 at home. Born in Jersey City, he resided there and in Rumson before moving to Red Bank. He was general organizer and serviced the Ironworker’s District Council of Greater New York before retiring in 1994. He began his ca­reer as an ironworker in 1954, serving as a member of New York Local 40, and business agent and president of Local 170, New York City. He was also a professional boxer who finished his career with more than 70 victo­ries, and was inducted into the New Jersey Boxing Hall of Fame in 1989. He served with the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He was a commu­nicant and usher at Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church, Rumson. He enjoyed golf and gardening. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Helen Shanley of Red Bank; four daugh­ters and two sons-in-law, Felicia and Roy Ed­wards of Neptune, Danielle Shanley of High­lands, Sue and Tom Schroll of Red Bank, and Michelle Shanley of San Francisco; three brothers, Raymond Shanley of Bayonne, the Rev. Kevin O’Carm of Darien, Ill., and Michael Shanley of Jersey City; two sisters and broth­ers-in-law, Ann Marie and Robert Brooks of Centerville, Mass., and Colleen and Lester Jennings of Eatontown; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church, Rumson. Interment was at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. Ar­rangements were by John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank.

Anthony J. Savarese

Mr. Savarese, 79, of Oceanport, died Oct. 23 at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he resided there prior to moving to Oceanport 20 years ago. He was a stockbroker at Adams and Peck, New York City, and at various area brokerage firms, retiring 14 years ago. He was a parishioner of Precious Blood Roman Catholic Church, Monmouth Beach, and St. Joan of Arc, Fort Monmouth. He was also a member of the Holy Name Society at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Brooklyn. Mr. Savarese is survived by his wife of 51 years, Constance Allegra Savarese; three sons and daughters-in-law, Philip J. and Susan Savarese of Manahawkin, Joseph A. and Kathleen Savarese of Jupiter, Fla., and Michael A. and Rachel Savarese of Oceanport; a sister and brother-in-law, Theresa and Jack Ronan of Brick; and five grandsons. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at Church of the Precious Blood. Interment was at Woodbine Cemetery, Oceanport. Arrangements were by Damiano Funeral Home, Long Branch. Carmine Benante

Mr. Benante, 85, of Monmouth Beach died Oct. 29 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he resided in Oceanport for 40 years before moving to Monmouth Beach in 2002. He was a supervisor of research in pathology at the Veterans Hospital, East Orange, for 30 years, retiring in 1972. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II, from 1942-45. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2140, Long Branch. Mr. Benante is survived by his wife, Concetta Valentino Benante; and a son, Carl Benante of Monmouth Beach. Entombment was at Woodbine Mausoleum, Oceanport. Arrangements were by Damiano Funeral Home, Long Branch.

Florence Marie Faustmann

Mrs. Faustmann, 87, of Howell died Oct. 25 at home. Born in Newark, she resided in Colts Neck for 40 years before moving to Howell in 1998. Before her retirement, Mrs. Faustmann was a clerk at Prudential Insurance, Newark, and a sales associate at various retail stores for several years. She attended Colts Neck Reformed Church, where she also taught Sunday school. She was predeceased by her husband, August George Faustmann, in 2000. She is survived by two sons, Robert A. Faustmann Sr. of Penns Park, Pa., and Christopher L. Faustmann of the Wanamassa section of Ocean Township; three grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. Interment was at Shoreland Memorial Park, Hazlet. Arrangements were by C.H.T. Clayton & Son Funeral Home, Adelphia.

Margaret Brancato Mincieli

Mrs. Mincieli, 88, of Long Branch died Nov. 3 at home. Born in New York City, she resided in Long Branch for 38 years. She was a parishioner at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Long Branch. She was a member of the Long Branch Seniors. Mrs. Mincieli was predeceased by her husband, Dominic Mincieli. She is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Anthony Mincieli of Long Branch, Eugene and Frances Mincieli of Bayonne, and Andrew and Carol Mincieli of Albany, N.Y.; two sisters, Josephine Marra of West Long Branch and Mary Mango of Lakewood; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
