Prudential Bay Front Real Estate, Brick, has collected more than $3,000 worth of toys from area residents for children staying at the Cancer Fund’s Sunshine House Retreat in Point Pleasant. For the third consecutive year, Prudential Bay Front has secured a $1,000 grant for Sunshine House from Prudential’s Global Volunteer Fund. Prudential Realtors from over 20 countries apply annually for the grants.

Sunshine House is designed to help families of children with cancer renew themselves after the intense stress they undergo while their child is being treated, according to Prudential Bay Front. Visits to the facility are free and families are provided with spending money for meals and activities. The usual stay is two to four days long.

"We’re delighted with this year’s response," said Annette Bukowski, Prudential Bay Front’s project director. "We want donors to know that although special emphasis is put on holiday gifts, new toys are needed continually and we encourage donations all year long."

Those wishing to donate new toys to Sunshine House can contact Bukowski at (732) 477-2777.

Cinquemane earned a bachelor of arts degree in marketing from the New York Institute of Technology, Old Westbury. The Exxon Mobil Educational Alliance program awarded a $500 grant to Brick Township High School to help support the school’s student government activities and assemblies. The grant, which was made possible by the Exxon Mobil Corp., is one of 4,000 available to schools across the country served by Exxon or Mobil stations. Danny Jallo, owner of Exxon on the Run (corners of Route 88 and Chambers Bridge Road), worked closely with school officials to secure this grant.

The Exxon Mobil Educational Alliance program is designed to provide Exxon and Mobil retailers with an opportunity to invest in the future of their communities through educational grants to neighborhood schools.

Jamie Martin of Brick is one of two Ocean County residents to recently graduate from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers’ nationally recognized Electrical Apprenticeship Training Program. Administered jointly by the Paramus-based Local 164 and the Bergen-Essex-Hudson Division of the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA), the fully certified, five-year program serves as a model for similar training courses nationwide.

To graduate from the five-year program, students must complete 184 hours of classroom training each year and a total of 8,000 hours of on-the-job training, under the supervision of a qualified journeyperson associated with one of Local 164’s signatory contractors, as well as pass the final examination. The program prepares apprentices with the knowledge and training necessary to interpret blueprints; safely work with high voltages; and install, repair and service complex electrical equipment and controls for residential, commercial and industrial projects.
