Assembymen-elect thankful, ready to serve

As the Assemblymen-elect for the 12th Legislative District in Monmouth and Mercer counties, we sincerely appreciate the resounding vote of confidence that we received in the Nov. 4 election.

It is an honor and a privilege to be given the chance to serve in the state Legislature and we look forward to being advocates for positive, constructive change over the next two years. We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who made this opportunity possible.

We also wish to thank our opponents — Republican incumbents Michael Arnone and Clare Farragher — for their many years of public service and for running commendable, issue-oriented campaigns.

Now that Election Day is behind us, we are beginning the process of following up on the agenda for action that we outlined in our recent campaign: governmental ethics reform, a constitutional convention to alleviate burdensome property taxes, and mechanisms to control unwanted development.

We also look forward to working together as a legislative team — and as an attorney and a physician — to bring new insight and resolve to address the enormous problems confronting our health care system.

All of these issues are important to the residents of the district and to us as incoming legislators. Once we take our oaths of office in January, we will work tirelessly to ensure that our voices are heard on these and other issues.

It is our intent to represent our fellow residents in the 12th District regardless of whether an individual is a Democrat, Republican, independent or unaffiliated voter.

We will strive to be independent-minded representatives while maintaining the trust of those who elected us to serve on their behalf.
