Edison man, 23, gunned down in New Brunswick

NEW BRUNSWICK — An Edison man was shot dead and his friend severely injured in a parking lot on the corner of Spring and Paterson streets in New Brunswick in the early morning hours of Nov. 20.

A preliminary investigation by police revealed that the two men were shot shortly after leaving Reggae Night at Marita’s Cantina in the Ferren Mall, Albany Street, New Brunswick, as they were returning to their car.

Travis DiCapua, 23, of Hoover Street, Edison, was pronounced dead at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at 2:35 a.m.

An autopsy determined that the cause of death was a single gunshot wound to the chest and abdomen.

According to law enforcement officials, DiCapua was single and had no children.

DiCapua’s family could not be reached for comment.

Jason Radecki, 25, of Brooklyn, N.Y., was taken to Robert Wood Johnson for treatment immediately after the incident.

On Friday, hospital officials declined to provide further information about his condition, citing a request by the family.

Authorities declined to release any details about his injuries.

According to a news release issued by the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, Radecki is also single and has no children.

As of the Sentinel’s press deadline Friday, no arrests had been made in the case.

Law enforcement officials were unable to provide further details or any information about possible motives for the shooting.
