Old Hooper Ave. speeding must be controlled

I would like to take this opportunity to commend Mayor Joseph Scarpelli and the rest of the Brick community for once again being chosen as one of the safest communities in the United States. Unfortunately, it appears that the survey does not include road safety. The roads of Brick Township are extremely hazardous and a danger to pedestrians and the rest of the driving community.

Specifically, I am referring to the stretch of Old Hooper Avenue where the posted speed limit is 25 mph. This stretch of road is virtually used as a drag strip for every type of vehicle, including cars, trucks, tractor-trailers, garbage trucks, motorcycles and our very own Brick Township school buses, which carry our children daily from their homes to the schools.

This scenario exists seven days a week, morning, noon and night, at speeds exceeding 40 and 50 mph where our children play, ride their bicycles and where pedestrians walk. There is never a police presence, and unless something is done immediately, I fear the worst will happen.

Must we suffer a tragedy before something is done? Mayor Scarpelli, I implore you to address this matter now and make the roads of Brick Township as safe as the rest of the community. I hope that my words and concerns do not fall on deaf ears, and I will look for a positive response from you.
