PHS looking for winning routine

Little Tiger wrestlers face busy schedule

RaShone Johnson is hoping that now that his Princeton High wrestling team is settling into a regular routine, the Little Tigers will wrestle the way he thinks they can.
"Everybody is looking forward to the matches," said Johnson, whose team fell to 1-1 with a 45-42 loss to West Windsor-Plainsboro on Saturday. "We’ve got a lot of matches coming up in a short period now and we should be able to get into more of a pattern. And with the quad meets that they have now, our whole conference season will be decided within a week."
The Little Tigers have a quad meet against Hamilton, Lawrence and Allentown on Jan. 17, then another quad meet against Steinert, Ewing and WW-P South a week later. Toss in a match with Hightstown in between those dates, and that’s a large chunk of the season in eight days.
"I think once we get into a regular schedule we’ll do better," Johnson said. "It’s tough at this point of the season with the missed practices and the tournaments. Now we’ll start getting into the regular matches."
And once they do that, Johnson hopes to see the team he thought he’d see when the season started.
"We’re definitely looking to show improvement," Johnson said. "We’re a better team that we wrestled today. Not that North is a bad team, but I thought we would wrestle better than we did today. I thought we had more than that in our tank.
"We just had one of those matches where a couple things went wrong or we made some mistakes. But those are the breaks."
The Little Tigers picked up wins from Enrique Guererro, Andrew Mahar, Paul LaPlaca, Will Borchert and Blake Mitchell via pin.
Princeton returns to action Wednesday night at Nottingham.
