Agnes Ann Chobrda, 96, of Monroe, died Monday, Dec. 29, at Monroe Village, Monroe.
Born in Hruba vrbka Czechoslovakia, she moved to the United States in 1929 and lived in Manhattan until 1946. She and her husband, John, moved to Dayton, and resided there until 1997. After her husband’s death, she lived in Hightstown with her son before moving into Monroe Village.
Ms. Chobrda was a gourmet chef and cooked exclusively for the vice president of the Red Cross on Park Avenue in Manhattan. She left her job in 1946. She was a member of Czechoslovakia Farm Club of Hightstown and a member of the Presbyterian Church in Dayton.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law; John and Eugenia Chobrda of Hightstown, and Edward and Nancy Chobrda of Monroe; and her grandchildren, Elizabeth and James Deane of Swanville, Maine, and Christine Chobrda of Hightstown.
A funeral service was held 2:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2, with the Rev. John Maltby officiating at Crabiel Memorial Funeral Home, 202 Stockton St., Hightstown. Burial followed at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hightstown. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Agnes Ann Chobrda to Care Alternatives Hospice, 70 Jackson Drive, Cranford, N.J. 07016.
