Obituaries James R. McDermott

Mr. McDermott, 59, of Long Branch died Jan. 4 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he resided in Pennsylvania before moving to Long Branch eight years ago. He was a property manager at Wentworth Group, Eatontown, for two years, retiring one year ago. He was also a splicing foreman at Verizon before retiring. He was a parishioner of The Church of the Precious Blood, Monmouth Beach. Mr. McDermott is survived by his wife of 35 years, Eileen Hamann McDermott; a son, James P. McDermott of Bayonne; two daughters, Melanie Ann St. Pierre of Hoboken and Kristin Eileen McDermott of Long Branch; three sisters, Maryann McDermott of Washington D.C.; Clancy McDermott of Huntington Beach, Calif.; and Kathleen McDermott of Brooklyn; and one grandson A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at The Church of the Precious Blood, Monmouth Beach. Interment was at Holy Cross Cemetery, Brooklyn. The Damiano Funeral Home, Long Branch, was in charge of arrangements.

Melva Orma Van Note Beake

Mrs. Beake, 86, of Arvada, Colo., died Jan. 3 at the Colorado Lutheran Home, Arvada. Born in Long Branch, she resided there most of her life before moving to Colorado 17 years ago. Before her retirement, Mrs. Beake was employed by the Ocean Township School District, and Shadow Lawn Savings and Loan, Long Branch. She was predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Edwin Beake, in 1981. She is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, John and Marcia Beake, and Daniel Beake, all of Colorado, and Robert and Margy Beake of Phoenix; four sisters, Bernice, Elaine, Ethel and Anna Mae; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held in Denver, and burial will be in the spring at Christ Church, Shrewsbury. Edna Barker Baldwin

Mrs. Baldwin, 59, of Ocean Township died Jan. 2 at home. Born in Cape Cod, Mass., she resided in Brewster, N.Y. before moving to Ocean Township 30 years ago. She was a teacher in the Ocean Township school district, retiring this month. Mrs. Baldwin was a parishioner of St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, West End section of Long Branch. She was past president of the Spartan Booster Club of Ocean Township High School, player agent for the Ocean Township Little League, and a member of the Human Resource Committee of Ocean Township. She co-founded a softball league for handicapped children and the girls recreation basketball program, both Ocean Township. She was also named the Monmouth County "Volunteer of the Year:" in 1993. Mrs. Baldwin is survived by her husband of 34 years, Harry B. Baldwin; two sons, Scott R. Baldwin of Avon and Jeffrey M. Baldwin of Ocean Township; a daughter, Karen C. Baldwin of Belmar; and two brothers, Albert Barker and Thomas Barker, and two sisters, Marybelle Small and Eleanore Brenner, all of Massachusetts. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St Michael’s Church, followed by interment at Woodbine Cemetery, Oceanport. Damiano Funeral Home, Long Branch, was in charge of arrangements. Julia M. Zeccola

Mrs. Zeccola, 82, of Lincroft died Dec. 22 at home. She was born in Red Bank and became a resident of Lincroft 10 years ago. Mrs. Zeccola was a homemaker. She was a communicant of St. Leo the Great Roman Catholic Church, Lincroft. She was predeceased by her husband, James Zeccola, in 1989. Surviving are three sisters, Lucy Lopresti, Mary Russo and Louise Ricci. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Leo the Great Church, followed by interment at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. The Braun Funeral Home, Eatontown, was in charge of arrangements.
