John Young

   John S. Young, 89, of Monroe, died Monday, Jan. 19, at his home.
   Born in Tonawanda, N.Y., Mr. Young spent his childhood in Philadelphia and Croatia and then resided for many years in Elizabeth. He moved to Monroe in 1998.
   Mr. Young retired from Singer Manufacturing Co., of Elizabeth after 40 years of service. He was a grass roots organizer for the unionization of Singer Sewing Machines. He enjoyed motorcycling and was a bodybuilder and weightlifting enthusiast. He was the N.J. State Champion in Weightlifting.
   He is survived by his wife, Frances Pignataro Young; two daughters and two sons-in law, Diane and Richard Cox of Novi, Mich., and Lyn and Rick Joyce of Las Vegas, Nev.; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Ronald and Nancy Young of Lincroft and Alan Young of Keansburg; two sisters, Rose Hilliard of Hillside and Mary Rohloff of La Place, La.; four grandchildren, Dr. Shana Christian of Evanston, Ill., Adam Cox of Chicago, Heather Barone and Jennifer Keen, both of Las Vegas; And many nieces and nephews.
   A memorial was held on Wednesday, Jan. 21, at A.S. Cole Son & Co., 22 North Main Street, Cranbury, N.J. with the Rev. John Degan officiating.
