Obituaries Timothy Ford

Mr. Ford, 38, of South Orange died Jan. 12 in South Orange Township. Born in Lakewood, he had resided in Howell, Toms River, and Delray Beach, Fla., before moving to South Orange six months ago. Mr. Ford was an accountant at Advanced Health Media, Orange, the past year. He was predeceased by his father, Jon Ford Sr.; and a sister, Mary Margaret Ford. He is survived by his mother, Carolyn Ford of Long Branch; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Jon Ford Jr. of New York City, and Patrick C. Ford and Cassie Halka of South Orange; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Elizabeth and John Wilson of Seattle, and Victoria and Ron Thomas of Orange, Conn.; two nephews; and four nieces. Interment was at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold Township. The Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements.

James Francis Widmeier

Mr. Widmeier, 58, of West Allenhurst died Jan. 18 at home. Born in Toms River, he resided in West Allenhurst since 1972. He was an insurance agent at Prudential Insurance Co. for 30 years. He was a parishioner at St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, West End section of Long Branch. Mr. Widmeier was predeceased by parents, Harry C. and Frances Widmeier. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Hagel Widmeier; and three brothers, Harry Widmeier of Long Beach Island, Bill Widmeier of Massachusetts, and John Widmeier of Manasquan. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Michael’s Church, West End. Entombment was at Woodbine Mausoleum, Oceanport. The Damiano Funeral Home, Long Branch, was in charge of arrangements. Daniel Joseph Sullivan II

Mr. Sullivan, 83, of Sun City Hilton Head, S.C., died Jan. 14 at home. He was born in New York City. He was employed at the New Jersey Department of Institutions and retired as its chief of vocations and rehabilitation services. Mr. Sullivan served with the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1941-45. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Blinded Veterans Association. He also founded and was the first commander of a veterans association in Sun City. He is survived by his wife, Helen E. Sullivan; three sons, Daniel J. Sullivan III of the Elberon section of Long Branch, Gary B. Sullivan, M.D., and Robert B. Sullivan, both of Statesboro, Ga.; a daughter, Kathleen Paulson of Yardley, Pa.; a brother, Mortimer J. Sullivan of Farmingdale; a sister, Rosemary Varga of Brick; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Gregory the Great Roman Catholic Church, Bluffton, S.C. Arrangements were by Sauls Funeral Home, Bluffton. John J. McCarthy

Mr. McCarthy, 86, of Keansburg died Jan. 13 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Born in Jersey City, he resided in the Port Monmouth section of Middletown before moving to Keansburg, where he resided most of his life. Mr. McCarthy was a tool and die maker at Lappin Products, Wanamassa section of Ocean Township, for several years, retiring in 1983. Prior to that, he worked at Singer’s, Elizabeth, for 15 years. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II at Midway and Peal Harbor in the submarine division, and was awarded the Silver Dolphins. He was a communicant of St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, Keansburg, and a former member of St. Ann’s Samaritans. He was a member of the Bayshore Senior Center, Keansburg. Mr. McCarthy was predeceased by his wife, Edna Foulks McCarthy, in 1990; and a sister, Mary McCarthy. He is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Karen McCarthy of Keansburg, and Donna and Glen Toner of Bayville; a son and daughter-in-law, John and Patti McCarthy of Keansburg; a brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Kate McCarthy of Port Monmouth; and five grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Ann’s Church, followed by burial at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown. Arrangements were by John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. Joseph E. Colford Jr.

Mr. Colford, 83, of Tinton Falls died Jan. 25 at home. He resided in Jersey City and Monmouth Beach prior to moving to Tinton Falls in 2003. He was a social worker at Catholic Community Services in the Archdiocese of Newark before his retirement. Prior to that, he was the director at Hudson County Youth House and a probation officer in Hudson County. He led the move of Youth House from Bayonne to Secaucus and organized a supervised shelter at the Jersey City Medical Center for non-delinquent youth. He also set up group homes in Jersey City for adults released from state psychiatric hospitals. Mr. Colford also delivered meals to homebound Jersey City residents with AIDS as a volunteer with the God’s Love We Deliver program. He served as a trustee of Our Lady of Victories Roman Catholic Church, Jersey City and was a member of its school board. He was a trustee of St. Francis Hospital. Mr. Colford is survived by his wife of 55 years, Catherine Lipsett Colford; two daughters, Mary Palecek of Orland Park, Ill., and Lorie Reilly of Mount Laurel; six sons, Joseph E. Colford III of Middletown, Francis Colford of West Long Branch, Paul Colford of Roselle Park, Christopher Colford of Scarsdale, N.Y., Peter Colford of Mendham, and Brian Colford of Jersey City; 17 grandchildren; and one great-grandson. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at the Church of Precious Blood, Monmouth Beach, followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.
