A 45-year-old West Amwell man died Friday night from injuries suffered in a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Route 518 and Harbourton-Mount Airy Road in northwestern Hopewell Township.
Peter D. Bingham of Harbourton-Mount Airy Road in West Amwell was pronounced dead at University Medical Center at Princeton at 9:09 p.m. Friday, township police Capt. George Meyer said Monday.
The accident took place one hour earlier. Police say Mr. Bingham, who was driving north on Harbourton-Mount Airy Road, brought his vehicle to a halt at the stop sign at that road’s intersection with Route 518. "Then, for an unknown reason, Mr. Bingham pulled away from the stop sign and drove into the path of an oncoming van, which hit his car in the driver’s side door," Capt. Meyer said.
The van was driven by Kofi Ofosu-Koranteng, 37, of Sayreville. His street address was not available.
The Hopewell Fire Department and Hopewell Emergency Medical Unit responded to the accident scene. Mr. Bingham was extricated from his vehicle with mechanical apparatus. Mr. Ofosu-Koranteng also was taken to University Medical Center at Princeton, where he was treated for minor injuries and released.
No charges have been filed in conjunction with the accident, which is still under investigation by Patrolman Sandy Ferner and Detective Kevin Zorn.
