Councilman’s response disappointing

I read with deep sadness for the Long Branch community the very lengthy, discombobulated response by Councilman Michael DeStefano to my letter expressing the need for the state and federal attorneys in Long Branch.

In stark contrast, my letter was brief, accurate, and succinctly stated my premises. I was gratified by the numerous congratulatory calls I received, as the community understood the message conveyed in my letter.

Please note that Mr. DeStefano did not challenge my facts with facts, and he did not challenge my professional credentials and capability.

In Mr. DeStefano’s circumferential thought process, he attempted to denigrate my service to the community as an elected school board member. It has been my privileged opportunity to bring my integrity, expertise and credibility to the Long Branch public schools, locally and at the state and federal levels. Two weeks ago, while in Washington, D.C., I spoke with the deputy undersecretary of the U.S. Department of Education with reference to issues that impact all communities nationally.

Lastly, let me remind Mr. DeStefano that the meetings in city hall are council meetings, and not mayor meetings, and as such he and other council members must admonish the mayor and others when they speak, thusly.

May God bless the Long Branch community and leaders.
