Guard attendance dispute misses the point.

President George W. Bush has opened the records regarding his service in the National Guard way back in Vietnam. He says they prove he was an active member, though no one not affiliated with his party or taking sides in the matter seems to have any idea what the paperwork actually means.
But Richard Cohen offers an interesting take on the issue — the president may have served and not skipped out on meetings. But he is not telling the truth about what the Guard was at the time. And, as Cohen says, the president should grow up and be honest about it.
