Area professor named to wetlands council

Monmouth University, West Long Branch, has announced John Tiedemann, assistant dean in the School of Science, Technology and Engineering, has been appointed to the Wetlands Mitigation Council.

The Council was established under the Freshwater Wetlands Protection Act to finance wetlands restoration and preservation projects. It also governs New Jersey’s wetland mitigation banks.

Tiedemann, a resident of Point Pleasant, is a member of the Monmouth’s biology department, and also teaches courses at Brookdale Community College, Lincroft section of Middletown.

He received his bachelor of science degree at Upsala College, East Orange, and his master of science degree at Florida Institute of Technology, Melbourne. Tiedemann has designed a variety of marine education programs and courses, and conducted numerous public education and outreach programs dealing with coastal resource management and the quality of life in New Jersey’s coastal zone.
