Peter J. "Piccolo" Parrottino

Mr. Parrottino, 90, of West Long Branch died Jan. 22 at Sunnyside Manor, Manasquan. Born in Red Bank, he was a lifelong resident of the Shore area. He was a bus driver at Ranney School, Tinton Falls, before his retirement. Prior to that, he was the owner of the Parrott Sub Shop, Highlands and Long Branch, and part owner of Joe’s Car Wash, West Long Branch. He was a welder at a shipyard during World War II. Mr. Parrottino was a parishioner of St. Jerome Roman Catholic Church, West Long Branch. An avid sportsman, fisherman and hunter, he was a charter member of the Long Branch Sportsman Club, where he received numerous awards for shooting. He was predeceased by wife, Anna Simko Parrottino, in 1990. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, P. Ronald and Deborah Parrottino of Wall; two brothers, Daniel Parrottino of Long Branch and Robert Parrottino of Florida; two sisters, Addie Lucia of Long Branch and Violet Mazza of Florida; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Jerome Roman Catholic Church, West Long Branch. Interment will follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery, West Long Branch. The Damiano Funeral Home, Long Branch, was in charge of arrangements.

Virginia A. Orben

Mrs. Orben, 71, of Long Branch died Jan. 26 at Monmouth Care Center, Long Branch. Born in the Bronx, N.Y., she resided in Bridgewater for 30 years prior to moving to Long Branch. Mrs. Orben was predeceased by her husband, Donald F. Orben, in 1975. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Ramiro Garcia; a son, Daniel Orben; and two granddaughters. A graveside service was held at the chapel of Hollywood Memorial Park, Union. Arrangements were by Damiano Funeral Home, Long Branch.

Marie T. Anelli

Mrs. Anelli, 84, of Long Branch died Jan. 27 at St. Barnabas Hospice Center, Long Branch. Born in Newark, she resided in Bloomfield prior to moving to Long Branch eight years ago. Mrs. Anelli is survived by her husband, Rinaldo Anelli; a son, Joseph Anelli of Long Branch; a daughter, Cosette Russo of Cedar Grove; a brother, Nicholas Poto of Absecon; a sister, Yolanda Farrone of Belleville; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Arrangements were by Damiano Funeral Home, Long Branch.

Jacqueline L. Schwacke

Miss Schwacke of Long Branch died Jan. 28 in Eatontown. She was born in Long Branch and was a lifelong resident. She was a secretary at Fort Monmouth, Eatontown, for 50 years, retiring in 2002. Miss Schwacke was predeceased by a brother, William D. Schwacke. She is survived by three nieces, and several great-nieces and great-nephews. Arrangements were by Damiano Funeral Home, Long Branch.

Norma B. Doyle

Mrs. Doyle, 72, of Keyport died Jan. 27 at home. Born in Puerto Rico, she resided in Union Beach and New York City before moving to Keyport eight years ago. She was a retired member of the operating room staff at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel, where she was employed for nine years. Prior to that, she worked at Lilly Tulip, Holmdel, for 10 years. Mrs. Doyle was predeceased by her husband, Michael Doyle, in 1997; and a son, Robert Doyle, in 1977. She is survived by three daughters, Debbie Seigler of the Wanamassa section of Ocean Township, Barbara Doyle of the Oakhurst section of Ocean Township, and Karen Doyle of Atlantic Highlands; two sons, John Doyle of Keyport and Frank Doyle of the Cliffwood Beach section of Aberdeen; a sister, Nellie Andino of New York City; and four grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Keyport. Interment was at Shoreland Memorial Gardens, Hazlet. Arrangements were by Day Funeral Home, Keyport.

Edward A. Davis

Mr. Davis, 64, of East Brunswick died Dec. 14 in St. Peter’s University Hospital, New Brunswick. A grandson, Matthew Morosoff, died in 1999. Surviving are his wife, Diane Capone Davis; two daughters, Cindy Morosoff of Tinton Falls and Terri Addona of Holliston, Mass.; three brothers, James of Fort Meyers, Fla., the Rev. Joseph Davis, pastor of St. Therese Roman Catholic Church, Succasunna, and Peter Davis of Long Branch; six sisters, Ellen Matzuk, Patricia Davis and Loretta Goger, all of Fort Meyers, Caroline McKenna of Cranford, Mary Davis of Rahway and Trudy Donnelly of Lady Lake, Fla.; and five grandchildren. A Mass was planned for 10 a.m. on Dec. 18 at St. Bartholomew’s Church, East Brunswick. Entombment was to follow in Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick. Linda M. Speranza Dellapietra

Mrs. Dellapietra, 93, of West Long Branch died Jan. 28 at home. Born in New York City, she was a lifelong resident of West Long Branch. She was a parishioner of St. Jerome’s Roman Catholic Church, West Long Branch, and a member of the West Long Branch Seniors. Mrs. Dellapietra was predeceased by her husband, James Dellapietra, in 1985; a daughter-in-law, Mary Dellapietra; and a granddaughter, Debra Steinhouser. She is survived by a son, Anthony Dellapietra of Tinton Falls; two daughters and sons-in-law, Gloria and Leland Wersinger of Oceanport, and Carolyn and Dominick Mazza of Ocean Township; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Dorothea’s Roman Catholic Church, Eatontown. Interment was at Mount Carmel Cemetery, West Long Branch. Arrangements were by Damiano Funeral Home, Long Branch.

Francis J. Banach

Mr. Banach, 69, of Middletown died Dec. 31 at home. Born in Kearny, he relocated to Middletown 46 years ago. Mr. Banach was an engineering manager at Western Electric/AT&T for 37 years, retiring in 1989. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War, at which time he also appeared in the movie "Proud and Profane." He was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. He was a charter member of the Middletown Knights of Columbus Vince Lombardi Council No. 6552 and was past president of the Telephone Pioneers of America, Chapter No. 82. He was predeceased by a sister, Josephine Franco. Mr. Banach is survived by his wife of 48 years, Eleanor Dunzello Banach; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Valerie Banach of Long Branch, Brian Banach of Middletown, Neil and Michele Banach of Middletown, and Ronald Banach of West Long Branch; a daughter and son-in-law, Dina and Ronald Scaramutz of Hazlet; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandson. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Anthony of Padua Church. The John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown, was in charge of arrangements. Dr. Susan A. Young Schiavo

Dr. Schiavo, 50, of West Long Branch died Dec. 29 at home following a battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gehrig’s disease). Born in Newark, she resided in West Long Branch the past 20 years. She was a professor of education at Monmouth University, West Long Branch, the past 10 years. Prior to that, she was employed with the Long Branch Public School System and was instrumental in the creation and development of an early childhood literary curriculum. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Long Branch. She enjoyed working with learning-disabled children. She was predeceased by her husband, Anthony "Ducky" Schiavo, in 2001. She is survived by three sons, Michael, Erin, and Lorin; her parents, William and Betty Young; a sister, Mary Lou Shea; and her mother-in-law, Angela Schiavo. A memorial service was held at First Presbyterian Church, Long Branch. An additional memorial service is scheduled during the week of Jan. 19 at Monmouth University, West Long Branch. Joseph John Shandrey

Mr. Shandrey, 83, of Long Branch died Dec. 28 at home. Born in Miners Mills, Pa., he had been a resident of the Shore area since 1937. Mr. Shandrey was a senior instructor in the Applied Communications Division of the Officers Department at Fort Monmouth, Eatontown, before his retirement. He was a parishioner of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Long Branch. He was also president of the Holy Name Society and a head usher at St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, West End section of Long Branch. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He also a master sergeant with the 121st Signal Radio Intelligence Company, was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Signal Corps, and attained the rank of first lieutenant. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve and retired as a major. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 335, and the Nocturnal Adoration Society, Long Branch. Mr. Shandrey was predeceased by three sisters, Mary Kalanik, Sister Oresta O.S.B.M. (Order of St. Basil the Great), and Mother Theresa O.S.B.M.; and a brother, John Shandrey. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Dilione Shandrey; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Kevin Nugent of Middletown; a sister, Helen Stanley of Maryland; one grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
