Sophie (Eglentowicz) Horzempa, 84, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, at home.
Born in Jersey City she lived there before moving to Jamesburg where she lived for 50 years. She moved to Rossmoor in 1999. She was a dietary aide and food service worker at the Applegarth Care Center in Monroe Township for five years until her retirement in 1982. Previously, she held the same positions at Forsgate Country Club and Buxtons Family Restaurant, both in Monroe, for 10 years. She was a long time member of Holy Trinity R.C. Church in Helmetta.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Walter S. Sr.; a daughter, Marianne Sluke of Chandler Ariz.; a son, Walter J., of Jamesburg; two sisters, Jean Ciecwisz of Little Egg Harbor, and Sister Mary Marcella, CSSF of Lodi; three grandchildren, Kelly Ann Dougherty of Browns Mills, Walter J. Horzempa Jr. of Plainsboro and Dominic J. Horzempa of Jamesburg; and four nephews.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Feb. 12, from the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home, 205 Rhode Hall Road, Monroe Township, followed by a Mass at Holy Trinity R.C. Church. Internment followed in the parish cemetery in Monroe Township.
