NORTH BRUNSWICK — The Farrington Lake Cleanup will take place in the conservation area on Farrington Lake Drive on from 9 a.m. to noon on April 3.
Sponsored by Middlesex County Federation of Sportsmen, the Lawrence Brook Watershed Partnership, and the towns of North Brunswick, South Brunswick, East Brunswick, New Brunswick and Milltown, the annual event helps to remove accumulating trash and debris from in and around Farrington Lake.
"This is a magnificently beautiful area of our township and this project is a great way for our residents to get involved in preserving it," Lou Ann Benson, the North Brunswick Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services director said.
Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, students and church organizations, sports teams, individuals and families can all help make the cleanup successful, Benson said.
"We hope participants gain a sense of pride in their community by volunteering to clean," Benson said. "We also hope participants will take the time to enjoy the 9/11 conservation area that is there."
The 9/11 nature trail offers a winding path through a wooded setting with educational postings about wildlife and the environment. The trail, Benson said, encourages walkers to remember, in a peaceful setting, those who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001.
For the cleanup, the township provides participants with large plastic bags, heavy work gloves and pickers.
Participants should dress to pick up trash and wear waterproof shoes.
Those interested in participating should call the Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Service at (732) 247-0922 ext. 478 or e-mail lbenson@northbrunswick
