Obituaries Claire Adams Fleming

Mr. Fleming, 78, of the Parlin section of Sayreville, died March 11 in Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy division. Her husband, William J. Fleming Sr., died in 1974. Surviving are a son, William J. Fleming Jr. of the Morgan section of Sayreville; two daughters, June Fleming and Jane Gulick, both of Edison; and three grandchildren. A Mass was offered at St. Mary’s Church, South Amboy. Interment was in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Keyport.

Theresa V. Haiduk Mattson

Mrs. Mattson, 85, of Woodbridge, died on March 19 at the Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge. She was born in Perth Amboy and lived in Woodbridge for the past 52 years. Before retiring, Mrs. Mattson was employed by Midland-Ross, Somerset. She was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, Edison. Mrs. Mattson is survived by her husband of 62 years, Harvey W.; her son and daughter-in-law, Gary W. and Deborah of Old Bridge; her brother, Anthony Haiduk, of Perth Amboy; and three grandchildren. Arrangements were made by the Gundrum Service Home for Funerals, South Amboy. Interment was held at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Iselin.

Edward J. Lejda

Mr. Lejda, 86, of Sayreville, died March 9 in Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge division. He was predeceased by his first wife, Elizabeth Lejda. Surviving are his wife, Helen Stark Zwolinski Lejda; three daughters, Joyce Kilcomons of East Brunswick, Joan Celli of Nashville, Tenn., and Karen Redmond of Old Bridge; a son, Frank Zwolinski of South River; two sisters, Marion Mazeski of the Port Monmouth section of Middletown and Ceil Gutkowski of Edison; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. A Mass was offered at Our Lady of Victories Church, Sayreville. Interment was in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Long Branch. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sayreville Emergency Squad, Washington Road, Parlin, NJ 08859.

Vincenza Porpiglia

Mrs. Porpiglia, 99, of Woodbridge, died March 14 at JFK Hartwyck, at Oak Tree Nursing Center, Edison. Born in Calabria, Italy, she resided in New York City prior to moving to Woodbridge 46 years ago. Mrs. Porpiglia was a communicant of St. James Church, Woodbridge. She was predeceased by her husband, George, in 1948; and a daughter, Antoinette Volpe, in 1992. Mrs. Porpiglia is survived by two daughters, Catherine Busceti of Woodbridge, and Angelina Romanella and her husband, Pasquale, of Woodbridge; a son-in-law, Rocco Volpe of Maspeth, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Arrangements were made by the Costello-Greiner Funeral Home, Woodbridge. A funeral Mass was offered at St. James Church, Woodbridge, followed by interment at Calvary Cemetery, Queens, N.Y. Memorial contributions can be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

William W. Brockie

Mr. Brockie, 74, of Keyport, died March 12 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Syracuse, N.Y., he had lived in Keyport for more than 50 years. He worked as an electrical estimator for Raritan Electric, Edison, for more than 20 years before retiring in 2001. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church, Hazlet, a past Cub Scout leader and a life member and past chief of the Keyport Fire Department. Surviving are his wife, Barbara; son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Jaime of Middletown; daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne Ryan and Chris Johnston of Keyport; and one grandchild. A funeral service was held at St. John’s United Methodist Church, Hazlet and interment was held at Shoreland Memorial Gardens, Hazlet.
