A gala to raise tens of thousands of dollars in the name of education is slated for May 7 at Princeton University.
For $95 per person, partygoers can dance, eat and bid on items at a silent and live auction to help the West Windsor-Plainsboro Education Foundation raise funds for the West Windsor-Plainsboro Regional School District.
The foundation, a private nonprofit organization that strives to support continued excellence in the district’s schools, plans to honor U.S. Rep. Rush Holt (D-12) for his commitment to education as well as the staff and teachers who have received foundation grants.
This year’s eighth annual gala will feature the High School North Jazz Band, the Findecando Quartet from High School South and the Sandstorm Band.
The event will be held in the atrium at the Lewis-Sigler Institute for Integrative Genomics building and is set to begin at 7 p.m. Auction items include a helicopter ride to New York City; use of vacation homes in Orlando, Fla., and Cape Cod; expert instructions on cooking a romantic meal by a chef; handyman services; and an array of gift baskets.
The foundation hopes to top the $25,000 it raised last year.
"That’s our goal," said Marcia Smith Fleres, executive director of the foundation. "We’d like to make more money because, obviously, the more money we make, the more money that goes back into our schools."
