Lakewood services, parade May 31

LAKEWOOD — The township will hold Memorial Day services May 31 at Town Square on Clifton Avenue between Third and Fourth streets.

Services will begin at 9:45 a.m. with the raising of the American flag by the ROTC Flag Detail accompanied by two buglers. Chaplain Miller of the U.S. Air Force Reserve will conduct an invocation.

The Memorial Day parade will step off on Eleventh Street and pass the town hall at 10 a.m., after the ceremony ends. The parade will proceed to the All Wars Memorial via Clifton Avenue, making a right turn onto Main Street (Route 88) and crossing Route 9 south onto North Lake Drive where the war memorial is located.

At 10:45 a.m., buglers will play "Taps," during the laying of wreaths ceremony at the war memorial.

This will be followed by speeches by Mayor Raymond Coles; state Sen. and Township Committeeman Robert Singer; and state Assemblyman Joseph Malone, beginning at 11 a.m. Chairman Ralph Michel will be the master of ceremonies.

In the event of inclement weather, a short memorial service will be held at the municipal auditorium, 231 Third St., at 10 a.m. Tune to radio station WOBM-AM (1160) or call the police at (732) 363-0200 for information if the weather is threatening.
