Obituaries Ronald C. Granit

Mr. Granit, 64, of Point Pleasant Beach died May 24 at Ocean Medical Center, Brick. He was born and raised in Long Branch. Mr. Granit was a former employee at Earle Naval Weapons Station, Colts Neck, and Navesink Country Club, Navesink section of Middletown. He is survived by four sisters, Alice Gale Colford of Long Branch, Diane J. Rakos of Brick, Carole I. Stavrou of Wall Township, and Linda J. Garcia of Whiting; and several nieces and nephews. Burial was at Woodbine Cemetery, Oceanport. The Lakewood Funeral Home, Howell, was in charge of arrangements.

Frieda "Dolly" Federico

Mrs. Federico, 82, of the Lincroft section of Middletown, died May 31 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she resided in the Morganville section of Marlboro before moving to Middletown 40 years ago. Mrs. Federico was a homemaker. She was a communicant of St. Leo the Great Roman Catholic Church, Lincroft, where she was a member and past officer of the St. Ann’s Guild. She was a member of the sewing and knitting club at Luftman Towers, Lincroft. Mrs. Federico was predeceased by her husband, Joseph S. Federico, in 1990; and a brother, Salvador Placanica. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Donna Federico of Middletown; five daughters and four sons-in-law, Mary Federico of Eatontown, Catherine and Roger Kramp of Madison, Roberta and George Pappayliou of Springboro, Ohio, Frieda and Bruce Huff of Hillsborough, and Denise and John McKenzie of Eatontown; two sisters, Loretta Panaro and Francis Capozzi, both of Fulton, Ky.; and six grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Leo’s Church, followed by burial at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown. The John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown, was in charge of arrangements. William Heggie

Mr. Heggie, 73, of West Long Branch died June 11 at Jersey Shore Care Center, Eatontown. Born in Schenectady, N.Y., he resided in Long Branch prior to moving to West Long Branch 35 years ago. Mr. Heggie was a mortgage broker at Sovereign Bank, Toms River, retiring six years ago. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a parishioner of Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Long Branch. He was past president and a Hall of Fame member of the Monmouth County Bowling Association. Mr. Heggie is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Gordon and Anailda Heggie of West Long Branch; two daughters, Pamela Heggie and Angela Holder, both of West Long Branch; his mother, Margaret Riddell Powers of West Long Branch; his former wife, Barbara Yamello Heggie of West Long Branch; and five grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at Holy Trinity Church. Entombment was at Woodbine Mausoleum, Oceanport. The Damiano Funeral Home, Long Branch, was in charge of arrangements. Charles A. Della Pietro

Mr. Della Pietro, 82, of Hazlet died June 5 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Born in Matawan, he was a lifelong resident of Hazlet. Mr. Della Pietro was a tile foreman at Adco Tile Co., Keyport, retiring in 1975. He was predeceased by a brother, Fred Della Pietro. He is survived by four daughters, Doreen Chapman of Malta, N.Y., Dody Swaffer of Kingsland, Ga., Toni Burger of Newton, Pa., and Dina Marie Sansone of Brielle; a son, Anthony Della Pietro of Jackson; three sisters, Phelomena Bottiglieri of Keyport, Anna Pardue of Eatontown, and Rachel Allocco of Holmdel; two brothers, Anthony Della Pietro of Marlboro and Frank Della Pietro of Holmdel; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Burial took place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Keyport. The Day Funeral Home, Keyport, was in charge of arrangements.

Harold E. Clayton

Mr. Clayton, 79, of Long Branch died June 15 at Gateway Care Center, Eatontown. Born in Long Branch, he was a lifelong resident. He was an electrician for the U.S. Government, retiring in 1985. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was predeceased by a daughter, Melody Clayton in 1961. He is survived by his wife, Madeline Lazarides Clayton; two daughters and one son-in-law, Eileen Montenegro of Ocean Township, and Deborah and Jack Levy of Long Branch; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be June 18 at 9:30 a.m. at Damiano Funeral Home, Long Branch. Interment will follow at Glenwood Cemetery, West Long Branch.

Robert L. Clark

Mr. Clark, 72, of Hazlet died June 2 at Arnold Walter Nursing Home, Holmdel. Born in Passaic, he resided in Asbury Park and Fair Haven prior to moving to Hazlet in 1994. He was an appliance salesman at A&S Stores, Eatontown, for eight years, retiring in 1990. Prior to that, he was employed at Anderson TV and Appliance, Red Bank, for 10 years. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He is survived by a son, Richard J. Clark of Indian Rocks Beach, Fla.; two sisters, Joan O’Brien and Patricia Brennan, both Hazlet; and one granddaughter. Burial was at Shoreland Memorial Park, Hazlet. Arrangements were by John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown.

Rita Elizabeth Harrison Oberdick

Mrs. Oberdick, 88, of the New Monmouth section of Middletown, died June 3 at home. Born in Newark, she resided in New Monmouth since 1954. She was a homemaker. She was a communicant of and member of the Altar Rosary Society at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth. She was also a member of its Over 50 Club, Wednesday Lunch Club, and Middletown Bridge Club. She was predeceased by her husband, William Oberdick, in 1962. She is survived by five sons and four daughters-in-law, William J. and Barbara Oberdick of Cleveland, Ohio, Ronald J. Oberdick of New York City, James and Jan Oberdick of Middletown, Robert and Barbara Oberdick of Bridgewater, and Michael J. Harrison of Ocean Grove; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen M. and John Byrnes of Washington, D.C., and Patricia Ann and Thomas Connolly of Red Bank; a sister and brother-in-law, Dolores and Robert Tanner of Princeton Junction; a brother, James Harrison of New Port Ritchey, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Mary’s Church. Burial was at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. Arrangements were by John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. James Russell Locke

Mr. Locke, 69, of Ocean died June 4 at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. He resided in Germany prior to moving to Ocean in 1996. He was employed with the U.S. military, retiring after 41 years. He enjoyed time with his family. Mr. Locke is survived by his wife of 34 years, So Yun Chang Locke; three sons, Russell James, David Russell and Michael Anthony; a brother, Henry Locke; three sisters, Shirley Henson, Beverly Shamlin and Donna McCready; and three grandchildren. Interment was at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Arnytown. The Braun Funeral Home, Eatontown, was in charge of arrangements.

Elizabeth A. Johnson

Miss Johnson, 45, of Long Branch and Middletown, died June 4 in Long Branch following a battle with cancer. She was an options strategist on Wall Street, New York City. She enjoyed time with her family, travel, the beach and sailing. She is survived by her mother, Lois; a brother and sister-in-law, Stephen and Beth; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Jo and Artie, and Dale and Stephen; and four nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. Arrangements were by John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown.
