Department of Community Affairs (DCA) Commissioner Susan Bass Levin recently announced that $2.2 million will be distributed to 56 towns throughout the state for property tax relief in watershed moratorium offset aid. Area towns receiving watershed moratorium offset aid are Colts Neck, $28,388; Holmdel, $5,076; and Middletown, $7,755.
Pathmark Stores Inc., Carteret, has announced the "Quest to Make a Difference" fund-raising effort for The Arc will take place through Aug. 1 at 10 Pathmark stores in Monmouth and Ocean counties. Customers at each store may purchase a donation card in the amount of $1, $3 or $5, and each card will be hung in the store as a "wall of fame" to show customers’ donations. Proceeds will benefit The Arc’s programs for individuals with mental retardation and related disabilities.
Dennis Tafuri, manager of Metropolitan Café, Freehold, has earned intermediate certification from the American Sommelier Association.
Tafuri attended a 22-week course at the Borgata Hotel, Atlantic City. Of the 60 people who registered for the course, Tafuri was one of only nine people to complete the training. Tafuri has been with Metropolitan Café for five years, and plans to continue his wine training to complete his master sommelier certification.
The Richard Stockton College Board of Trustees unanimously approved a tuition increase of $11.10 per credit at a special meeting recently. The tuition increase makes the per-credit cost at The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey $159.10 per credit hour for in-state students and $258 per credit hour for out-of-state students.
Howard Klein, of Freehold, has been promoted to president of Lanmark Group Inc., Eatontown. Lanmark is a full-service healthcare advertising, marketing and communications agency. Klein previously held the position of vice president account supervisor at Lanmark Group. In his new position, Klein will be responsible for managing and directing the overall operations of the company, including strategic marketing initiatives for several major Lanmark accounts, including Wm. Wrigley Jr. Co., Darby Group Cos., Johnson & Johnson, and Sirona Dental Systems.

Jack Mitchell, director of the Monmouth Battleground Chorus, Freehold Chapter, Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in American, recently attended a three-day course for choral directors. The course was held at Harmony College East of Salisbury State University, Salisbury, Md. Men from throughout the East Coast attended various classes at the event, including vocal production, choreography, music arranging, sight singing and master of ceremonies.
Paul Orecchia, who formerly maintained a law practice in Freehold, has joined the Toms River law firm of Carluccio, Leone, Dimon, Doyle & Sacks. His general practice in Freehold included civil litigation, wills, trusts, estates, real estate and municipal court. At the Toms River law firm, he will specialize in personal injury and commercial litigation, serving clients of Monmouth, Ocean and Atlantic counties.

He received a bachelor of arts degree in accounting from The George Washington University, Washington, D.C., and a law degree from Widener University Law School, Delaware. He is a member of the New Jersey and Pennsylvania bars and a new member of the American Trial Lawyers Association.
Life Line Screening will be at Planet Fitness, Route 9, Manalapan, July 27 to provide screenings to reduce the risk of having a stroke. Appointments will begin at 9 a.m. Preregistration is required.
Screenings involve the use of ultrasound technology and scan for potential health problems related to blocked arteries, aortic aneurysms and hardening of the arteries in the legs. A bone-density screening will also be offered to men and women to assess their risk for osteoporosis.
Each screening requires 10 minutes or less to complete. A vascular screening package including the stroke/carotid artery, abdominal aortic aneurysm and ankle brachial index (hardening of the arteries) is $99. Acme Markets Inc. has begun a fund-raising effort to aid local relief agencies that have been affected by the recent floods. Acme will match each dollar collected, up to a total of $10,000. A canister has been placed at each register, and the campaign will continue through Aug. 8. Locally, Acme is located on Route 79 in Marlboro.
