The Sayreville Athletic Association 12-and-under softball team opened up the tournament season in fine fashion, as Jennifer Pollard tossed a perfect game against Manalapan in the opener of the East Brunswick All-Star tourney Friday.
Coach Gary Winant said Pollard received strong defensive support from her teammates in the 8-0 victory.
"The defense made the plays, and the girls truly showed what they are capable of achieving," the coach added.
Sayreville went on to finish third, and the team is hosting its own tournament this week.
The other members of the Sayreville squad include Julie Braun, Jacquie Ciak, Jessica Costa, Samantha Eveigan, Leigh Ann and Mary Ellen Lockwood, Haley Pagoda, Tara Rappleyea, Sierra Roccaro and Danielle Scanlon.
