Mrs. Arena, 89, of West Long Branch died July 7 at Gateway Care Center, Eatontown. Born in New York City, she resided in Brooklyn, N.Y., prior to moving to West Long Branch in 1980. Mrs. Arena was a homemaker. She was a communicant of St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, West End section of Long Branch. She was predeceased by her husband, Anthony Arena. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Anthony and Karen Arena; a daughter and son-in-law, Elena and Edward Merlino; a sister, Grace Henriquez; four grandchildren; and one great-grandson. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Michael’s Church. Interment was at St. John’s Cemetery, Queens, N.Y. Arrangements were by John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank.

Josephine Foggia Torchia

Mrs. Torchia, 88, of West Long Branch died July 21 at St. Barnabas Hospice and Palliative Care Center, Long Branch. Born in Long Branch, she was a lifelong resident of the area. She was a parishioner and member of the Rosary Altar Society at St. Jerome’s Roman Catholic Church, West Long Branch. She was also a member of the Holy Trinity Seniors, Long Branch. She enjoyed puzzles and cards, and was an avid Yankee fan. She was predeceased by a son, Thomas J. Torchia in 1998. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Bruno Torchia; two daughters and one son-in-law, Rae and Alfonso Marisco of Eatontown, and Angela Pfeiffer of the Oakhurst section of Ocean Township; a daughter-in-law, Betty Torchia; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Jerome’s Church. Interment was at Mount Carmel Cemetery, West Long Branch. Arrangements were by Damiano Funeral Home, Long Branch.

Paul W. Pearson

Mr. Pearson, 77, of Long Branch died July 21 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Born in South Amboy, he resided in Old Bridge prior to moving to Long Branch 21 years ago. He was a relocation supervisor for 32 years at the N.J. Department of Transportation Right of Way Division, retiring in 1991. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of Holy Trinity Church, Long Branch. He as predeceased by two sons, William G. and Paul V. Pearson; and a granddaughter, Michelle. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Victoria Mikkelson Pearson; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathryn and Gerry Poland of Sayreville, and Margaret "Meg" and David Palmer of Monroe Township; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Burial was at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arnytown. Arrangements were by The Brunswick Memorial Funeral Home, East Brunswick.

Adrian J. DeYoung

Mr. DeYoung, 71, of the Wanamassa section of Ocean Township, died July 25 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Born in Rahway, he had resided in Woodbridge before moving to Wanamassa 44 years ago. Mr. DeYoung was a consultant for RaboBank International, New York City, from which he recently retired as vice president. Prior to that, he was employed at Deutsche Bank for 37 years. Mr. DeYoung served with the U.S. Army. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Long Branch. He is survived by his wife, Carol Buthe DeYoung; a sister and brother-in-law, Dolores and Edward Kresge of Watchung; one niece and one nephew. A funeral service will be held July 30 at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church. The Damiano Funeral Home, Long Branch, is in charge of arrangements.
