Cheesequake Chaos girls capture MGSSL tourney

The Cheesequake Chaos 12U All-Star girls softball team capped off its 30-10-1 season with an undefeated 9-0 record in the Monmouth Girls Summer Softball League Tournament.

In the championship game, both teams played excellent ball but in the end, the Chaos defeated the Little Silver Jersey Girls by a score of 2-1 to capture first place at their home field on Schulmeister Road, home of Cheesequake softball and baseball.

In their first season, the girls came out strong, bolstered by the flawless pitching of Rory Skene and Maureen O’Kane. Several other pitchers also contributed greatly to the team’s success; including Katie O’Kane, Janine Averbach, Courtney Mikos, Elaina Boncich and Brittany Horan.

The team was supported both defensively and offensively by the solid play of Alex Haberman, Amy Layton, Kaitlyn Flynn-Rozanski, Krystal Godowski, Krystyne Kennedy, Christina Sereda, Lisa Sypniewski, Stephanine Solari and Jordyn Cetnar.

The girls took third place in the Middletown Babe Ruth Softball Classic Tournament and second place in the East Brunswick Summer Slam. The coaching staff of Jim Skene, Jamie O’Kane, Donna Godowski and Joe Averbach led the girls to an outstanding season. Coach Joe Averbach stated that the girls’ positive attitude, both on and off the field, was a testament to their love of the game and the support of their families.
