Austin Zurlo of Bernardsville shot a 40 for nine holes at Rossmoor Golf Course Monday to post his fifth Boys 9-11-year-old division title on the New Jersey Junior Golf Competition tour.
Zurlo has yet to win consecutive events, but he finished three strokes ahead of Max Barousse of Chester and Monroe’s Kevin Lee. Barousse was awarded second place on a match of cards.
Patrick DiLeo of Manalapan picked up six strokes over the final three holes to grab his third title of the season in the Boys 12-13-year-old division. Dan Griffith of Short Hills had pulled even with DiLeo after birdying the 100-yard, par-three 15th hole. But DiLeo gained two strokes on each of the remaining holes. Matt Molinari of Hillsborough finished third.
Chris Piumelli of Mountain Lakes won the Boys 14-15 age group on the final hole as he pared the 335-yard 18th, while Wayne’s John Cree took a bogey. Piumelli carded a 79 for his round, while Matt Parise of Williamstown took third place, seven shots off the pace.
Mike McComb of Egg Harbor trailed by two shots after 12 holes in the Boys 16-17 age group, but picked up one stroke on the 15th and two more in the 17th to beat Paul Ziedman of East Brunswick by one. McComb birdied the 17th while Ziedman bogeyed the hole. McComb finished with a round of 79, Ziedman had an 80 and Kevin Schaeffer of Long Valley placed third with an 81.
West Windsor’s Krista Volker won the Girls 12-17 age division with an 87, two shots better than Colts Neck’s Cindy Sobieski.
Liz Hotchkiss of Pennington was a distant third with a 101.
Monroe’s Jessica Doyle, whose brother Sean took fifth in the Boys 9-11 age group, won the Girls 9-11 division with a 54 for nine holes. Viktoria Lager of West Windsor took second with a 56, while Howell’s Rebecca Gaono was third with a 62.
