Forty-six pieces of artwork produced by Ocean County artists will be among the entrants in the upcoming 2004 New Jersey Senior Citizens Annual State Art Contest and Exhibit to be held at the Hunterdon City Complex in Flemington. The judging will take place Aug. 27 and the exhibit will be open to the public from Sept. 1-29, Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The 46 pieces traveling to the state exhibit were originally part of the larger collection of 148 pieces of artwork that were submitted for the 28th annual Ocean County Senior Citizens Art Exhibit at Ocean County College, Toms River, held in June. The 46 winning entries were presented with awards in nine categories.

Salem received honorable mention in the same category for "Hawaii Shore."

For work done in pastel, Bob Zech received third place in the professional category for "Temptation, Good & Evil;" and John Muzzicato received honorable mention in the same category for "Muggsy." Enid C. Osborne was awarded first place in the amateur pastel category for "I Am Woman."

In the drawing category, Michael Cohen received first place in the amateur category for "Me;" Janet Perrin was awarded second place in the same category for "Little Lauren Rose;" and Clare Considine took third place for "Lady From Kenya" in the same category.
