SEA BRIGHT — A “Blessing of the Animals” service will be held at 10 a.m. Sept. 25 as part of Sea Bright Day festivities.

The Rev. Rob Long, pastor of the First United Methodist Church in the borough, will conduct the blessing at the municipal parking lot. If it rains, the service will be moved indoors to the basement of the church on Ocean Avenue.

Long said he was doing the blessing of the animals in response to a number of people who have told him it’s important to them.

Another of the many activities lined up for what’s shaping up to be a very busy day is a sand-castle building contest that’s being sponsored by the Sea Bright Police Department. It will take place between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.

There will be a $10 entry fee and participation is open to all ages. All proceeds will be donated to a local charity. Applications may be picked up in advance at the police headquarters on Ocean Avenue and will also be accepted on the day of the contest. Entrants will be allowed to construct any free-form sand sculpture of their choosing, and will be judged on creativity and presentation.

Prizes have been donated by Sea Bright Gulf, Andy K’s and Bain’s Hardware, and include: four tickets to Great Adventure, one Game Boy Advance System, one DVD player, one inflatable pool raft, and a grand prize of one computer system.
