Members of the Central New Jersey Coalition for Peace and Justice will travel to Washington, D.C., Oct. 17 to join the Million Worker March, a march organized around the issues of jobs, a living wage and workers’ rights.

The marchers will also address the need to stop the war in Iraq.

To join the coalition on the bus to Washington, D.C., call the answering service at (732) 345-8400 and leave a message. The cost will be between $30 and $35 per person, depending on how many people decide to participate.

The Westside Community Group will hold its annual Candidates Night Oct. 13 from 7:30-9 p.m. at River Street Commons, 49 Catherine St., Red Bank.

All four Red Bank Borough Council candidates have agreed to participate. Each candidate will be given not more than a three-minute opener and closer, with the rest of the time consisting of questions from the audience.

The event will be monitored by Amy Goldsmith, Westside Community Group president.

The Red Bank Education and Development Initiative fall kickoff reception and meeting has been rescheduled for Thursday, Oct. 21, at the Oyster Point Hotel in Red Bank.

The reception will begin at 6:30 p.m. A community meeting will immediately follow the reception and will conclude at 9:30 p.m. Refreshments and hors d’oeuvres will be served at the reception.

Preservation Red Bank will hold its seventh annual yard sale on Saturday, Oct. 2, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The sale will take place at 178 Bridge Ave., at the corner of Catherine Street. Help is needed on Friday for set up.

On Nov. 16 at the Little Silver Public Library, Ronald McDonald will be in attendance to read stories to children.

There will be two sessions, one at 1:30 p.m. for preschoolers, and one at 3:15 p.m. for kindergarten age and up.

The event is part of American Education Week, and admission is free.

The Fair Haven PTA will sponsor its annual Harvest Fest on Saturday, Oct. 2, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Knollwood School, Hance Road in Fair Haven.

The event will take place rain or shine, and admission is free.
