Classes offered in CPR, Internet safety, memory

  • Millstone Township Community Education is offering the following classes this term. All classes will be held at the Millstone Middle School unless otherwise indicated. Preregistration is required for all courses.
  • “Creating the Garden ‘Room’ ” will offer participants guidance on designing an outdoor garden using color, texture, form and function, and the appropriate use of perennials, annuals, soil types, and shade and sun plants. The class will be taught by Stephen Kristoff on Tuesdays, Oct. 26-Nov. 23, 7-8 p.m., in room 166. The fee is $55.

    “American Heart Association CPR” will teach attendees adult, child and infant cardiopulmonary resuscitation and the Heimlich maneuver, and will end with a written and skills test. Bob Trifiro, a certified AHA instructor and emergency medical technician, will teach the class Oct. 20 from 7-10 p.m., in the art room. The fee is $50.

    “Memory Power for Adults” will be presented Oct. 26 from 6:30-9:30 p.m. in room 168. Al Tuve of the American Speed Reading Corp. will conduct the class. The fee is $50.

    A cooking demonstration and dinner with Beth Noonan will be held Oct. 20, 7-9:30 p.m., at the Clarksburg Inn, Route 524/Stagecoach Road, Millstone. Chef Noonan will prepare and demonstrate a dinner of wild mushrooms and scallops in puff pastry; pumpkin soup with parmesan; spinach salad with war bacon and cranberry dressing; filet mignon with crispy onions and shallot sauce and portobello and potato cake; and pumpkin cheesecake with pecan crust for dessert. The fee is $50.

    State Police Detective Sgt. Anthony Ritter, the Millstone Township PTO, and Millstone Township Community Education will present a “Cyber Safety Workshop” Oct. 26, 7-8:30 p.m., in the school library. The program will focus on ways Internet users can protect their personal information from identity theft and review the types of information that should be shared online. Parental awareness of Internet safety issues and ways to ensure children’s security will be stressed. The discussion will be followed by a question and answer period. The workshop is free of charge.

    Millstone Elks Lodge to

    host Octoberfest dinner

    Millstone Elks Lodge 2613 serves Friday night dinners from 6-8 p.m. The cost is $10 for adults, $7 for children, with proceeds benefiting charities supported by the Elks. Reservations are not required.

    An Octoberfest meal will be served by the 25th Anniversary Committee on Oct. 15. Roast beef and pork prepared by the Ladies Auxiliary is on the menu for Oct. 22, which will also feature a Chinese auction from 6-7:30 p.m. Chicken and ribs by Scotty will be served on Oct. 29.
