Allentown Crop Walk to be held Oct. 24

In Allentown, as well as across the nation, neighbors will join together for the annual Crop Walk. Participants will walk a 5-kilometer route to raise money to help relieve hunger locally and throughout the world. A shorter walk will also be part of the activities.

The 28th annual Allentown Area Crop Walk will be held Oct. 24, with 25 percent of all money raised staying right in Allentown, distributed through the Good Neighbor Fund to those in need in the greater Allentown area. The route will take walkers through the historic Allentown area.

The 5K walk will begin at 1 p.m. with registration at Allentown United Methodist Church, 23 Church St. Participants must bring a copy of their sponsor sheet to register (or acquire one at registration). The event will end with refreshments and door prizes.

For the mini walk, participants will leave local Sunday school classes at their respective churches and walk to Pete Sensi Park, arriving at 10:15 a.m.

The entry fee is a jar of peanut butter for the Allentown Area Food Bank. Walkers who collect $25 or more in donations will receive a free T-shirt (supplies are limited, however).

The walk will be held rain or shine. No roller blades, skateboards or bicycles will be permitted. Organizers are also collecting coins, and participants are asked to bring their loose change.

Sponsor sheets and information are available at any participating organization, any area church, and at the Allentown Public Library, 16 S. Main St. Log on to www.cropwalk.org. For more information, call (609) 259-7289.
