Amboy National Bank, Aberdeen, recently awarded $100 to Charles Tyrrell, Aberdeen, at its grand opening. Tyrrell was one of the top prize winners in the bank’s “Instant Rewards” game held in conjunction with the opening. The bank is headquartered in Old Bridge, and has 20 offices in Middlesex, Monmouth, Mercer and Somerset counties.

Prudential New Jersey Properties, Matawan, announced that Marie Ferraro, Sayreville, was recently honored with the President’s Award at the stockholders meeting of the Middlesex County Multiple Listing System (MLS) held in late October. Ferraro was recognized for having the second greatest number of listings closed between July 1, 2003, and June 30. She has been a member of the MLS since 1987 and provides real estate services in the Sayreville area.

The Doctor’s Office, 1070 Route 34, Matawan, will commemorate National Diabetes Education Week, “Self-Management Matters: Team Up with a Diabetes Educator,” during the week of Nov. 1-7, and will offer free assessment questionnaires and blood sugar testing. Screenings will Nov. 3 from 10 a.m.-noon, and Nov. 6 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday screenings will be performed by appointment only, and individuals may make an appointment by calling The Doctor’s Office at (732) 290-0300.

The Willows at Holmdel Assisted Living Community, 713 N. Beers St., will host the seminar “Easing the Transition to Care” Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. The free seminar will be presented by The Alzheimer’s Association, and will address concerns of families that may be considering assisted living or nurse home care for loved ones, or transitioned a family member to facility based care. Middletown Township’s chief financial officer, Robert A Roth, was recently elected to serve as vice chairman of the New Jersey Commission on Capital Budgeting and Planning for the next year. Roth was appointed a commissioner by Gov. Christine Todd Whitman and confirmed by the New Jersey Senate in 1995, and reappointed to a second term in 2001. The Commission was created in 1975 to provide a systematic and concentrated focus on the investment and preservation of the state’s capital resources. It is composed of four public members, four legislative members and four members of the executive branch. Its

responsibilities include developing short- and long-range capital spending plans, recommending capital projects for inclusion in the annual budget, and assessing the state’s ability to increase its overall debt. The public members serve terms of six years, and are unsalaried but may be reimbursed for expenses.

Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel, recently held the grand opening of its newly expanded subacute care services unit located at Bayshore Health Care Center, Holmdel. The 26-bed unit is designed to give rehabilitative services to patients that have experienced an acute illness or injury. The unit more than doubled in size, and 12 of its beds are in private rooms. The older unit had 12 beds. The unit also includes redesigned and refurbished living and dining areas, beauty parlor services, and free telephone and TV service.

The Matawan-Aberdeen Chamber of Commerce will hold its next general meeting and lunch Nov. 16 at noon at Terra Christa’s Restaurant, 231 Main St., Matawan. Middletown resident Richard Mazor, sales associate at Coldwell Banker, Middletown, recently attended the 15th annual Coldwell Banker Elite Retreat in Salt Lake City. The retreat honored the top 10 percent of Coldwell sales associates worldwide who earned membership in the International President’s Premier, Elite and Circle sales clubs for outstanding production during 2003. Mazor is a lifetime member of the New Jersey Association of Realtors Distinguished Sales Club, bestowed on associates who have earned the Circle of Excellence Award for 10 years or more. Active in the Kiwanis and Rotary, Mazor is the married father of two and grandfather of two.

ShopRite of Aberdeen recently donated $2,500 in gift certificates to Eric and Elizabeth Hayes, Marlboro, the parents of the state’s first sextuplets. The couple also has two sets of twins ages 5 and 8. The donations were made by Richard Saker, president and COO of Foodarama Supermarkets, which owns and operates the ShopRite of Aberdeen. The store also donated diapers and assorted gifts to the family.

Heather Colella, sales representative at Gloria Nilson GMAC Real Estate, has received her Certified Residential Salesperson (CRS) designation by the Council of the Realtors National Marketing Institute, an affiliate of the National Association of Realtors. The CRS designation is the highest awarded to sales associates in the residential sales field. The CRS designation recognizes professional accomplishments in both education and experience.

Colella, A Lincroft resident, has recorded over $7 million in sales in her first year. Ms. Colella’s office is located at 350 Highway 35 in Middletown.

To receive the CRS designation, Realtors must demonstrate outstanding

professional achievements, including high-volume sales or a high number of transactions (and often both), and pursuing advanced training in areas such as business planning, Real estate investing, marketing and technology. They also maintain membership in the National Association of Realtors, and abide by its code of ethics. Less than 4 percent of Realtors nationwide hold this designation.

Bruce R. Rosenblum, M.D., of Colts Neck, a board-certified neurosurgeon and director of neurosurgery at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel, has been selected as Physician of the Year by the hospital’s medical staff. Dr. Rosenblum was recognized at the Hospital Foundation’s Celestial Visions Charity Ball Oct. 9 at the Grand Marquis in Old Bridge.

According to a press release from Bayshore, Rosenblum is expanding the stereotactic aspect of his practice — that is, using image-guided techniques and robotics to perform surgery in a less invasive way. He also remains committed to treating patients with chronic pain issues, such as using implantable devices to alleviate pain.

Rosenblum received his medical degree from Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York City. His internship and neurosurgery residency were at Mount Sinai Medical Center, where he also was chief resident in neurosurgery. He also had a surgical neurology fellowship at the National Institutes of Health’s National Institute of Neurologic and Communicative Disorders and Stroke, Surgical Neurology Branch, in Bethesda, Md.

In addition to being director of neurosurgery at Bayshore, Rosenblum serves on the hospital’s emergency and ambulatory care, and operating room committees. He also is director of the neurosurgery divisions at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township; Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank; and Paul Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood. Rosenblum is involved in a variety of organizations dealing with neurosurgery, including the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and its sections on pain, pediatrics, trauma and critical care, and tumors. He also is a member of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons and the Society of Neuro-oncology, and is a Fellow in the International College of Surgeons in Neurological Surgery, the American College of Surgeons, and the Stroke Council of the American Heart Association.

A nationally known speaker/presenter, Rosenblum has been published in a variety of professional journals. His works include the book “State of the Art Reviews in Neurosurgery: Cerebral and Spinal Arteriovenous Malformations,” which he edited and also contributed several chapters.
