Local residents provide

special day for veterans

Hamilton Township Unit 31 American Legion Auxiliary, which includes members from the Allentown area, hosted a party for veterans recently at the Mercer Geriatric Center. Veterans who live at the center were given a special Awards Day party, with each veteran receiving a plaque with his name, branch of service, and the years of his service. Each veteran also received a “goody bag” of socks, combs, handkerchiefs, key chains, pencils, note paper, cards and a stuffed animal. The event also featured games, pizza and beverages.

Auxiliary members who attended the party are Janice Schmitt, Judy Kerrigan, Carol Wright and Rosine Dusenberry, who were assisted by John Kerrigan, Commander Jack McHugh and his wife, Jane, and Wayne Wright.

Funds for the event were raised through the annual sale of paper poppies.
