Immigrants are here just trying to work and survive

Recently, I went to a rally in Prince-ton. The rally was held because there were some Mexicans held up and assaulted by some local hoodlums. One [victim] did not seek help from the police or first aid because like a lot of immigrants, they do not trust the police.

What was refreshing was the mayor and some of the town council members spoke at this rally in support of the immigrants. They stated that immigrants in the past helped to build this country and they are doing so today with their sweat and money. They also contribute by their culture.

When will the mayor, Borough Council and citizens of Freehold Borough come to realize that these people are here to work, and that all they are asking in return is to be treated fairly and with respect? Instead, the mayor and council have repeatedly harassed, threatened, fined and jailed people just for trying to find work in an area originally set up for this purpose. Is this America or is this a fiefdom or dictatorship?

It is time for the borough to think of setting up term limits for the council members as well as the mayor’s office; 20 years as a mayor is too much. The council should be limited to no more than three terms and the mayor to two terms. The president can only serve for two terms, the governor also. Why is Mayor Wilson and the council allowed to serve so long?

I will keep advocating for these changes because the mayor and council have tried to literally starve these hard-working, law-abiding people out of Freehold Borough with their hard-lined and hateful policies.
