Nominations for ASBPA awards now accepted

The Jersey Shore Partnership Inc., Sandy Hook, is seeking nominations for members of Congress, congressional staffers and members of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for outstanding work to preserve and protect the state’s and the nation’s beaches and the ocean. Deadline for nominations is Jan. 1.

The awards will be given by the American Shore and Beach Preservation Association (ASBPA) at the Coastal Summit in Washington, D.C., in March. The ASBPA is a coastal advocacy organization of which the Jersey Shore Partnership is a member. Its goal is to keep shore protection issues in the forefront of the national legislative debate and allow the coastal states to present a unified voice before Congress.

Four awards will be presented:

• The Coastal Advocate Award — the ASBPA’s highest award, which goes to the member of Congress with a long history of advocacy for the shore and working for coastal states on the federal level

• The Friend of the Coast Award — bestowed on a member of Congress that has worked on a specific project benefiting the shore

• The Corps Award — honors the member of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers who has contributed to the cause of beach management and preservation, and been active in moving beach preservation projects forward

• The Congressional Staffer Award — awarded to a staff member for his or her efforts to promote beach preservation and facilitate project requests during the past legislative session.
