FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP — In the business of diamonds, brilliance is very important. That is why Eric and David Salkin of the Jewel Case, in the South Freehold Shopping Center, are so excited.

On one of their recent diamond buying trips to Antwerp, Belgium, the diamond cutting capital of the world, they met a diamond cutter who has invented what they said is a revolutionary new cut of round diamond called the Spirit of Flanders.

According to Eric Salkin, while traditional round diamonds have 58 facets, this 80-faceted diamond with a patented “parabolic table” creates far more brilliance and gives the diamond the appearance of being larger than another round diamond of the same size.

On Dec. 4, the Jewel Case will bring Antwerp to Freehold Township. The cutter will be visiting the store between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. to meet and greet customers and discuss the new cut of diamond.

“This is a unique opportunity for the diamond-buying public to meet with the renowned diamond cutter directly and to view and even purchase this revolutionary cut of diamond,” Salkin said. “In 27 years I have seen and heard a lot of marketing hype encouraging people to buy certain brands of diamonds that basically look the same as any other diamond. This diamond actually looks much more brilliant and seeing is believing.”

The brothers, whose parents started the business and who now have the oldest jewelry store in Freehold Township, plan to serve wine and cheese and hold a raffle at the day-long shopping event. For more information call the Jewel Case at (732) 462-3311.
