Penn Federal Savings Bank will help keep youngsters in Newark’s Ironbound section a little warmer this winter. Branch locations in Sayreville, Farmingdale and Marlboro, in conjunction with radio station Mix 102.7 FM, gathered items for the Coats for Kids campaign. Through Dec. 6, the bank collected gently worn, clean children’s winter coats, jackets, hats and mittens at all its branches in New Jersey.

All clothing shared with Coats for Kids will be given to the Ironbound Boys and Girls Club for distribution, according to Joseph L. LaMonica, Penn Federal Savings Bank president and CEO. Individuals who donated clothing entered a raffle to win dinner for four courtesy of Fuddruckers Restaurant, with each of the branch locations picking a local winner.”

In addition to Coats for Kids, Penn Federal supports the Feed the Hungry program of St. John’s Church in Newark each holiday season; employees have donated nearly $2,000 so far this year. The bank and its employees are also involved in the Salvation Army toy drive.

Schoor DePalma, an engineering and consulting firm based in Manalapan, has been recognized by the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) with its 2004 Corporate Partner of the Year Award. The award was presented to Schoor DePalma at NJIT’s Celebration 2004 Nov. 12 at the Pleasantdale Chateau in West Orange.

The Corporate Partner Award is given annually to the company that has developed a strong educational partnership with NJIT. In past years, Exxon, PSE&G, Schering-Plough Corp., UPS, and Prudential have been recipients of the award.

Schoor DePalma was selected for the award in 2004 because of the high level of scholarships and real-world experience it provides on an annual basis to NJIT students. Through Schoor DePalma’s internship program, students can receive course credit or be paid — including those who are awarded an NJIT scholarship. During internships, Schoor DePalma interns are provided the opportunity to go out into the field to view projects, learn about the field of engineering, be mentored by Schoor DePalma experts, and ultimately receive the real-world experience they will need after graduation.

Schoor DePalma’s internship program has led to several former interns being hired after graduation. Since 2001, Schoor DePalma has hired 24 interns, from NJIT and various other institutions, for full-time positions at the company.

Schoor DePalma offers a range of services in transportation, land development, building services, environmental, and public works. The company has 12 office locations in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New York.
