Monmouth Civic Chorus will hold auditions for experienced singers, January through June on Tuesday evenings by appointment only. Auditions and chorus rehearsals are held at Trinity Episcopal Church, 65 W. Front St., Red Bank. The chorus, directed by Mark Shapiro, will perform Brahms’ “Alto Rhapsody” with guest star Barbara Dever from the Metropolitan Opera at the Count Basie Theatre April 3, and Baroque music by Bliss, Handel an Purcell June 11 at the First Presbyterian Church in Red Bank. Rehearsals are held September through June from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Tuesdays. Interested singers are invited to attend one of the first rehearsals. Eatontown Playhouse will hold auditions for “The Redemption of Fawler Mulrae,” a new drama by M. Lennon Perricone to be staged in March at the Eatontown Playhouse, Route 35, Eatontown. There is an opening for the role of Canada Sheckoski, a poor, athletic youth from a rural environment. Actors ages 15-22 are welcome to audition. Rehearsals will begin in mid January. Phoenix Productions will hold auditions for the rock musical “Jesus Christ Superstar,” which will be presented at the 1,500-seat Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank two weekends in March. Auditions will be held Jan. 4 and 5 from 7-9 p.m. and Jan. 8 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Phoenix Studio Theatre, 111 Monmouth St., Red Bank. Those auditioning should prepare an up-tempo tune and wear comfortable clothing and shoes. All parts are open, and 10 children are also needed.

Phoenix is also hosting its annual “Dance Challenge” competition, which will award $1,000 to the best dancer. The dance contest audition will be held Jan. 8 at 3 p.m. at the Phoenix Studio. Those auditioning should prepare a 30-second dance piece, any style with music. Finalists will be selected to dance in “Jesus Christ Superstar.” Final judging will be by choreographers and directors from throughout the state. The winner will be announced on-stage at the final performance of “Jesus Christ Superstar.”

Pierrot Productions will hold auditions for the musical “Sweet Charity” Jan. 8 and 9 beginning at noon and Jan. 12 starting at 7 p.m. All auditions will be held at the West Windsor campus of Mercer County Community College, 1200 Old Trenton Road. The room location will be posted at Kelsey Theatre. Those auditioning should prepare a song from any musical and a one- to three-minute monologue for consideration for any of the named character roles, and dress for Fosse-style jazz dance. A résumé and photo are also requested. Principal characters should be at least 21 years old, while ensemble actors should be a mature 16 or older. Audition appointments are required. Production dates are April 22, 23, 24, 29, 30 and May 1. The roles include Charity Hope Valentine, eight ballroom hostesses, the ballroom manager, a matinee idol and his fiancee, a shy man, a spiritual leader, and an ensemble of singers and dancers, all with numerous character parts.
