County to distribute remaining flu vaccine

The Middlesex County Public Health Department will hold a walk-in flu-shot clinic from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Jan. 6 at the Milltown Senior Center, 60 Violet Terrace, to distribute its remaining flu vaccine to qualified high-risk residents throughout the county.

The county will administer approximately 2,500 shots on a walk-in basis at the clinic, which will be open to high-risk individuals from all of the county’s 25 municipalities, including residents of the five towns that have their own health departments: Edison, Middlesex Borough, Piscataway, South Brunswick and Woodbridge.

Individuals considered high-risk according to guidelines from the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services include senior citizens age 65 and above; residents age 18 or older with underlying chronic medical conditions; all women, pregnant during the influenza season; health care workers involved in direct patient care; and out-of-home caregivers and household contacts of children under 6 months old.

Residents age 65 and above must bring identification for proof of age and residency, and a Medicare card, if applicable, to the clinic.
