Building Contractors Association of New Jersey (BCANJ), Edison, has begun 2005 with a new slate of officers who were unanimously elected at the organization’s annual membership meeting. These individuals are charged with developing association goals and objectives to be carried out over their two-year term. The officers and their respective positions are James Parry of John D. Lawrence Inc., Westville, president; Robert Gariepy of Austin Helle Co. Inc., Cedar Grove, vice president; Paul Natoli of Joseph A. Natoli Construction Corp., Pine Brook, secretary; and Robert Polisano of Network Construction, Pleasantville, treasurer.

Established in 1937, BCANJ consists of approximately 225 active and associate members who are engaged in commercial, institutional and industrial construction. The association works toward unifying the construction industry in terms of labor relations, improved business methods and standards, high safety standards, and overall project efficiency and productivity.

The Chambers of Commerce of East Brunswick; Metuchen; Old Bridge, Sayreville and South Amboy; Perth Amboy; Piscataway; Somerset County; and Woodbridge will present the fifth annual “Bizmania 2005” May 2 from noon-6:30 p.m. The networking and food-tasting event will be at the New Jersey Conference and Exposition Center, 97 Sunfield Ave., Edison. The Chambers are seeking food vendors and restaurants to take part and provide food samples, as well as local businesses to showcase products and services. ERA Brokers of New Jersey recently elected board members to serve on the ERA Brokers of New Jersey Board of Trustees for 2005. The board serves the 45 ERA offices in Bergen, Essex, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Morris, Ocean, Passaic, Somerset, Sussex and Union counties.

Named president of the board was Scott Lauri, president, broker/owner of ERA Absolute Realty, North Brunswick. Lauri also served as vice president and technology chairman of the board.

Other area members elected to the board are John Sharp, broker/owner of ERA Designs for Living, Old Bridge, elected treasurer; and Carol Ann Stevenson, broker/owner of ERA Advantage Realty, Freehold (Advantage also has offices in Manalapan, Keyport, Cream Ridge and Morganville), was elected secretary.

Sharp has served as the board’s treasurer the past seven years, and has 18 years’ real estate experience. Stevenson has worked in real estate 15 years, and served on the education committee.

Bruce H. Jones, South Brunswick, has been re-elected executive director of the Commercial Finance Association for 2005. Founded in 1944, Commercial Finance Association (based in New York City) is the trade organization of the asset-based financial services industry, with members throughout the United States, Canada and around the world. Members include the asset-based lending arms of domestic and foreign commercial banks, small and large independent finance companies, floor plan financing organizations, factoring organizations and financing subsidiaries of major industrial corporations.

Jones has been with the Commercial Finance Association for 38 years. After completing college, he was drafted into military service and spent much of the next two years in Bremerhaven, West Germany, as a cryptographer in the Signal Corps. Jones is only the third chief administrative officer of the trade group in its 60-year history. Among his achievements at CFA include launching the Secured Lender, the leading publication in the asset-based financial services industry.

In 1981 and 1982, Jones was on the Township Committee of South Brunswick. Also, in the late 1970s and early 1980s he served on the Planning and Environmental committees of the township. In addition, he has been a volunteer for the local chapter of the American Heart Association.

Rocky Top Dog Park, 4106 Route 27, South Brunswick, recently launched a new “Day Tripper” service. A staff member will pick up a client’s dog at home during the workday, bring the animal to the dog park for exercise, and return the pet to the owner’s home. The Bristol-Myers Squibb Children’s Hospital at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick, recently opened its new pediatric emergency department. The $5.9 million facility has private patient treatment areas, and a family waiting and play area. It is adjacent to the pediatric radiology department, so X-rays, CT scans and other diagnostic tests may be conducted on site.
