Sandra Lee Brown Slonski

Mrs. Slonski, 62, of Hazlet, died Jan. 11 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank, following a lengthy battle with cancer. Born in Cinnaminson, she resided in Long Branch and Philadelphia before moving to Hazlet 35 years ago. Mrs. Slonski was a homemaker. She was a communicant of St. Benedict’s Roman Catholic Church, Holmdel. She is survived by her husband, Walter A. Slonski; and a daughter and son, Karen and William Slonski, both at home. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Benedict’s Church, followed by interment at Monmouth Memorial Park, Neptune. The Day Funeral Home, Keyport, was in charge of arrangements.

Allen Morton Whiting

Mr. Whiting of Shrewsbury died Jan. 2 at St. Barnabas Hospice at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Born in Red Bank, he resided in Eatontown for 40 years prior to moving to Shrewsbury. He was employed at the pictorial, visual and audio laboratory at Fort Monmouth, Eatontown, for 34 years, retiring in 1977. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of the West Long Branch Fire Co. (exempt), and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He enjoyed football, golf, gardening, baking, and travel. He was predeceased by his wife of 40 years, Dorothy V. Whiting. He is survived by a sister, Ruth Sniffen of Whiting; a brother and sister-in-law, Sheldon and Josephine Whiting of Salinas, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Fan Whiting of Brick; two daughters and sons-in-law, Phyliss R. and Alan Peakes, and Valerie M. and Salvatore DiLieto, all of Bluffton, S.C.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Entombment was at Woodbine Mausoleum, Oceanport. Arrangements were by Braun Funeral Home, Eatontown. Matthew E. “Ted” McCarthy Jr.

Mr. McCarthy, 59, of Interlaken, died Jan. 11 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, following a brief illness. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he resided in Little Silver and Red Bank for almost 40 years, prior to moving to Interlaken. He was employed at The News Service, Red Bank. Prior to that, he was employed at Philippine National Bank, New York City and Manila, Philippines, where he also resided for a period of time. He served with the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War, and was a decorated veteran. He enjoyed time with his family, music, cooking and the Brooklyn Dodgers. He was predeceased by his parents, Doris and Matthew McCarthy. He is survived by his wife, Donna Kerr McCarthy; his children, Katie of New York City, Maggie and Molly, both of Aspen, Colo. and Teddy of Baltimore; four brothers, Thomas McCarthy and David McCarthy, both of Rumson, Gregory McCarthy of Laconia, N.H. and Donald McCarthy of Winchester, Mass.; five sisters, Peggy Reilly of Cotuit, Mass., Lolly Ekdahl of Rumson, Cathy Yodice of Little Silver, Carol Howard of Tinton Falls and Jeannie of Annapolis, Md.; and 18 nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. James Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. Arrangements were by John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank. Lucien G. Trenet

Mr. Trenet, 81, of Shrewsbury, died Jan. 6 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in France, he had been a resident of Shrewsbury for the past 40 years. Mr. Trenet was the owner of Lucien Trenet Plumbing and Heating, Shrewsbury, from 1973 to 2004, when he retired. He was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. He was predeceased by a son, Serge P. Trenet, in 1987. Mr. Trenet is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ida Ferrigno Trenet; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Bernard and Catherine Trenet of Fleetwood, Pa., and Sylvain Trenet of Ocean; a daughter and son-in-law, Yoland and Gary Ruggiero of Shrewsbury; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Anthony’s Church. The John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank, was in charge of arrangements.

Lydia Tavares Kurchner

Mrs. Kurchner, 74, of Long Branch, died Jan. 15 at the Specialty Hospital at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Born in Newark, she had been a resident of Long Branch for the past 40 years. Mrs. Kurchner was the proprietor of Lydia’s, West Long Branch, for 30 years before her retirement. She was predeceased by a sister, Cleo Dlugosz; and a niece, Renee Stolz. Mrs. Kurchner is survived by her husband Jerry Kurchner; her children, Robin Viola, James Kurchner, and Jason Kurchner; and six grandchildren. Entombment took place at Beth Israel Memorial Park, Woodbridge. The Damiano Funeral Home, Long Branch, was in charge of arrangements.

Mary Ellen Ferrone

Mrs. Ferrone, 72, of the New Monmouth section of Middletown, died Jan. 18 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in the Bronx, N.Y., she resided in New Monmouth for more than 40 years. She was executive assistant to the vice president at Brookdale Community College, Lincroft section of Middletown, for more than 15 years. She was a communicant of, and member of the Adoration Society and Altar Rosary Society at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth. She was predeceased by a sister, Anna Friel. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Lawrence Paul Ferrone; a son, Lawrence John Ferrone of Oswego, Ill.; a daughter and son-in-law, Catherine Ann and Peter Buontempo of Westfield; a brother, Bernard Friel of Hazlet; four sisters, Jean Giacalone of the Bronx, N.Y.; Catherine Hergenrother of Queens, N.Y.; Agnes Engl of Roanoke, Va.; and Patricia Henningsen of Red Bank; and two grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Mary’s Church. Burial was at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown. Arrangements were by John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown.

Anna Lang

Miss Lang, 91, of Lakewood, died Jan. 19 at Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood. Born in Germany, she resided in Long Branch and Shrewsbury Township for 44 years before moving to Lakewood in 2001. Miss Lang was a member of the Shrewsbury Township Senior Citizens. She was predeceased by her longtime companion, Gunther Meurer, in 1992. She is survived by her friends, Ruth and Ralph Lione of Lakewood. Arrangements were by Braun Funeral Home, Eatontown.
