The Howell Recreation Department is holding open registration during the month of February for its men’s summer basketball league — 35 and over. Friday night games will begin on May 27 at Oak Glen Park. Registration fee is $25, with additional referee fees.

The Howell Recreation Department is also holding open registration during the month of February for its youth summer basketball league — grades 4-10. The six-week schedule will being the first week of June. Registration fee is $25, with additional $15 referee fees. For more information on either league, call (732) 938-4500, ext. 2501.

New Egypt Baseball final registration for the 2005 baseball sign-ups will be held on Saturday at the New Egypt Middle School between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Learn more about coach/player’s clinics scheduled for March, or becoming a baseball umpire, coach or commissioner. Registration is $115 per player, and additional $50 per family member. Ages 5-6 players pay $85 and $50 for additional members. Fees include a brand-new helmet for all players. Opening day is set of April 2.

On Jan. 15 and 16, Level 5 and 6 gymnasts from Wilton Academy in Howell competed at the USA Gymnastics New Jersey state championships.

In Level 5, age 10 action, Nicole Murdocca took fifth in the all-around (35.25), after placing second on the bars (9.35), fifth on the vault (9.0) and 12th on the floor (8.65).

In Level 5, age 10 and 1/2 action, Stephanie Belli took 14th in the AA (34.85), after placing third on the beam (9.2) and 14th on the bars (8.75). Erin Miglin took third on the vault (9.35) and sixth on the bars (9.075).

In age 11 action, Arianna Bellafiore took third in the AA (36.8), after placing third on the bars (9.525), sixth on the floor (9.175), seventh on the vault (9.25) and 13th on the bars (9.525). Haley Ostrander was ninth in the AA (36.025), after placing second on the vault (9.575) and 10th on the bars (9.075).

In Level 6, ages 8 and 9 action, Casie Ann Smith competed well, accumulating an AA score of 32.75, while in age 11 action, Kelsey Healy scored a 33.925 in the all-around.

On Jan. 8, Kaitlyn Reszkowski competed in the Level 7, age 11 USA Gymnastics New Jersey State Championships in Edison, and took third on the beam (9.525) and 13th on the floor (8.85).
