Thomas F. “T.V.” Varga

Mr. Varga, 54, of Costa Mesa, Calif., and formerly Edison, died Jan. 27 at Wells House Hospice, Long Beach, Calif. Born in Perth Amboy, he resided in Edison prior to moving to California 31 years ago. He was a freelance pattern maker/canvas fitter, most recently employed at Marine Services, Newport Beach, Calif. He was predeceased by his father, Frank Varga in 1984; and his step-father, John Kisty in 1989. He is survived by his mother, Ethel Kisty of Middletown; a sister and brother-in-law, Sheila and Roy Carey of Long Branch.; and one nephew and one niece. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. Arrangements are by Damiano Funeral Home, Long Branch. Eugene R. Sweeney

Mr. Sweeney, 60, of Elizabeth, died Jan. 31 at Trinatas Hospital, Elizabeth. Born in Newark, he resided in Metuchen, Toms River, Old Bridge and Monroe Township before moving to Elizabeth six months ago. Mr. Sweeney was an engineer at Matthew Bendix Associates, New York City, the past year. He was a member of the American Society of Plumbing Engineers. Mr. Sweeney is survived by two sons, Andrew of Boca Raton, Fla., and Matthew of Monroe Township; a daughter, Robin of Boca Raton; and a sister, Maureen Turiello of Red Bank. Interment was at Alpine Cemetery, Perth Amboy. The Michael Hegarty Funeral Home, Old Bridge, was in charge of arrangements. Donald F. Arnold

Mr. Arnold, 76, of East Brunswick, formerly of Metuchen, died Jan. 20 in Care One, East Brunswick. Surviving are his wife, Diane Stephens Arnold; three sons, William of East Brunswick, Michael of Freehold and Chris of Princeton; a sister, Mary Louise Bater of Brockport, N.Y.; and six grandchildren. A gathering was held at Crabiel Home for Funerals, Milltown. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

George A. Mendez Sr.

Mr. Mendez, 85, of Mays Landing, formerly of East Brunswick, died Jan. 19. A former chairman of the East Brunswick Recreation Board, he was instrumental in establishing the first East Brunswick Senior Center and in developing the municipal pool. He served as chairman of the East Brunswick and Middlesex County Democratic party organizations. Surviving are his wife, Marie Doyle Mendez; three children, George Jr. of Mays Landing, Ralph of Simpsonville, S.C., and Virginia Brewster of Metuchen; two sisters, Margie Smizaski of Park Ridge and Ruth Cashin of California; two granddaughters; and more than 15 nieces and nephews. A Mass was offered at St. Bartholomew’s Church, East Brunswick. Entombment was in Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick.
