Edison resident frustrated by overdevelopment

I am writing to vent my frustration with Mayor Spadoro, the Planning Board and Councilman Diehl. After reading the letter by Mr. Goodman recently, I was extremely upset. It seems that Mr. Goodman has a special relationship with the mayor because when our neighborhood (Vineyard Road and Route 27) have had problems, no township officials care to even listen.

It could be because they have considered our neighborhood a commercial dumping ground! According to the council’s master plan, our neighborhood should be the host of commercial development.

In the past, the mayor has said that Edison’s villages are deemed an area where over development makes the most sense. It’s clear that the mayor and the council never considered the burden this will bring to my family and the hundreds of other people living in our area of South Edison.

These bad decisions, whether it’s a lack of sidewalks or Wal-Marts, are horribly thought-out decisions. However, decisions like these, which are put out by Spadoro and the Edison council will negatively impact my neighbors’ quality of life and our home values forever!

When we attended the Planning Board meeting to reduce the impact on our neighborhood regarding the Wal-Mart, none of them, including Councilman Diehl would even listen! In fact a Planning Board member chastised our entire neighborhood group when we asked to speak. And these are the people representing all of us South Edison residents! They’re supposed to be our voices yet they won’t listen to our voices!

Why didn’t Councilman Diehl intervene for us? Clearly, the Wal-Mart issue is a much bigger issue then just a few sidewalks. It just seems to me that local officials are not sure of what they are doing. How could a councilman who happens to be a teacher not understand that the lack of a sidewalks is a problem for school kids, yet vote to waive the sidewalks! Then he had to be told by a resident that sidewalks are needed for safety of our school children. What is the matter here?

The rezoning that has taken place will forever change our township. Something must be done to change what these people have done. We now will be faced with a large redevelopment of the Ford property, making matters even worse.
