Edna M. Bailey

Mrs. Bailey, 77, of North Brunswick, died Feb. 18 at JFK Medical Center, Edison. Born in New Brunswick, she resided in the Avenel section of Woodbridge prior to moving to North Brunswick three years ago. She was a retired bookkeeper at Avenel Hobbies, Colonia section of Woodbridge. Prior to that, she was a legal secretary at Kirzenbaum and Gabowitz, New Brunswick. She is survived by a son, Randall Farhy of North Brunswick; a daughter, Brenda Erb of Chestertown, Md.; a sister, Linda Colon of Grand Prairie, Texas; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Burial was at Van Liew Cemetery, North Brunswick. Arrangements were by Selover Funeral Home, North Brunswick.

Frank Smulowitz

Mr. Smulowitz, 91, of the Avenel section of Woodbridge, died Feb. 17 at JFK Medical Center, Edison. Born in New York City, he had lived in Queens, N.Y., before moving to Avenel 30 years ago. He was a founding member and past president of the Horainu (Hebrew for “our parents”) Senior Citizens Club of Temple Neve Shalom, Metuchen. Surviving are his wife, Pauline (Fleischer) Smulowitz; two daughters, Elaine Golden of Virginia and Sandra Gaber of the Iselin section of Woodbridge; a son, Marvin Smulowitz of California; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Graveside services were held at Baron Hirsch Cemetery, Staten Island, N.Y. Goldstein Funeral Chapel, Edison, was in charge of arrangements.

Mary Frances Johannen

Mrs. Johannen, 54, of Little Silver, died Feb. 15 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y., she resided there before moving to Little Silver. Mrs. Johannen was a registered nurse and in-home practitioner for the Monmouth County Office of the Handicapped. She was also a volunteer counselor. She was predeceased by her parents, Elizabeth and Mario Galliano. Mrs. Johannen is survived by her husband, Charles Johannen; three children, Donna Grillo of Old Bridge, Anthony Grillo of Freehold, and Chantall Grillo of Woodbridge; two stepsons and their wives, Colin and Alice Johannen, and Kevin and Megan Johannen; and four grandchildren. The John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank, was in charge of arrangements.

John J. “Butch” Stasienko

Mr. Stasienko, 63, of South River, died Feb. 17 in Atlantic City Memorial Hospital. Prior to his retirement in 1998, he was employed in maintenance for four years at the Concordia adult community, Monroe. Before that, he worked as a machine operator for 20 years with Kaiser Aluminum/Continental Can, Edison, and for eight years with National Lead, Sayreville. He was predeceased by a daughter, Cynthia. Surviving are his wife, Rosemarie Nowicki Stasienko; a son and daughter, John and Michelle, both at home; a son, David of the Monmouth Junction section of South Brunswick; a sister, Dolores Tartza of Bayville; a sister-in-law, Susan Gorski of Sayreville; his father-in-law, Benjamin Nowicki of Sayreville; two grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. A Mass was offered at St. Mary of Ostrabrama Church, South River. Interment was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, East Brunswick.
