Still waiting for pool promised 30 years ago

Before I bought my house in Edison in 1970, I checked the master plan and was pleased to see that a pool for the south of Edison was included.

I moved here with five children, now have six. They are all married and we have grandchildren. Mayor Spadoro is now telling us that there will be a pool included in the future of Edison. I hope my grandchildren will be able to use it.

I became involved in going to council meetings, but left my last one in tears. At that meeting someone on the council told a citizen to sit down and shut up because they had heard enough about the environment.

I was told that I was corny for objecting. Because of a serious health condition, I never went back, but always felt guilty letting Jane Tousman fight the fight. She has always done a good job in speaking out for the rights of Edison residents.

The problems that our town has in South Edison have always been ignored by the council. The Revlon property has looked like it was hit by a bomb for years. Plainfield Avenue and Route 27 is a disgrace that has not been taken care of for years.

This park that Mayor Spadoro is talking about will be on land that has been allowed to fall into disrepair also for years. These are conditions that would never be tolerated in North Edison, but, if the citizens object they are made to look like they are the problem.

The problem is as long as the council can keep the public at bay, they will do what they please. Thank God for people like Jane who is trying to call attention to their disregard for the public.
