Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Ryan M. McCarty, son of Sharon and Theodore McCarty of the Parlin section of Sayreville, recently reported for duty with Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron 152, Marine Aircraft Group 36, Okinawa, Japan. He is a 2002 graduate of Sayreville War Memorial High School.

Navy Seaman Timothy D. Kawecki, son of Barbara E. Kawecki of Old Bridge and Michael A. Kawecki of Hillsborough, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. During the eight-week program, Kawecki completed a variety of training, including classroom study and practical instruction on Naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis also was placed on physical fitness. Kawecki is a 2004 graduate of Hillsborough High School.

Air Force Airman Rafael Valentin, son of Eunice and Pedro Morales of Sayreville, recently graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. During the six weeks of training, he studied the Air Force mission, organization and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches; and received training in physical fitness, rifle marksmanship, field exercises and human relations. Valentin is a 2004 graduate of War Memorial High School.

Navy Seaman Recruit Michele L. Burke, daughter of Cindy L. and Robert Depreta of Sayreville, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. During the eight-week program, Burke completed a variety of training that included classroom study and practical instruction on Naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness. Burke is a 2004 graduate of Sayreville High School.

Marine Corps Pvt. James P. Pizzillo, son of Susan A. and Gerard D. Pizzillo of the Parlin section of Sayreville, recently completed 12 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C. In addition taking part in a vigorous physical conditioning program, Pizzillo spent numerous hours in classroom and field assignments that included learning first aid, uniform regulations, combat water survival, marksmanship, hand-to-hand combat and assorted weapons training. He and other recruits also received instruction on the Marine Corps values. Pizzillo is a 2002 graduate of St. Mary Regional High School, South Amboy.
